Thiago Alcantara showed the difference between an experienced player coming to EPL for the first time vs an inexperienced player also coming to EPL for the first time in Havertz who was so tentative. Timo Werner I believe will do well as he is so quick and tireless and was all over the place. Fabinho also deserves praise for being an emergency CB due to Pool's injury problems.

was again surprised last night by Pool, this time pleasantly (c.f. to the match against Leeds...).

Chelsea indeed didn't give the type of confidence needed, with a rather defensive set-up even at home. When they attacked, had caused some nervy moments, and might have changed the complexion with some luck in the final pass or strike. But after going 2 goals down with 10 men, can see they were pretty much resigned already - esp after the penalty miss.

Got showed some promises though. Once the newcomers are successfully bedded in (the question is how long it'll take - weeks or months, or a season or even more?), should click much better. 

But a stronger defence is needed, and Kepa really must be very sian... Think buy goalie, better dun buy one whose name starts with the letter K... 😅 

Pool's Karius had led the way, and is now still finding his feet around, more than 2 seasons after his high-profile blunders. Hope Kepa will have better luck.

Actually i'd not noticed Thiago much before, and man, was he good... Just fitted in so seamlessly, and in fact instantly upgraded the team when he came in... Now i think he's well worth the reportedly high wages he's commanding.

Thiago played for Barca n then Bayern Munich, the 2 clubs are amongst the top clubs in club football. He also plays for the Spain National team though with the likes of Xavi, Busquets n Iniesta being regular starters for Spain in the earlier years, he was more of a squad player earlier on but now he is a regular. So he must be a good player to be starters at all these teams. Good signing for Pool and he is more creative than most of Pool's other MF.

Kepa was quite ok in his first season for Chelsea but last season, he played badly n looks like his form has continued to this season. Chelsea buying Mendy, the Senegal National team goalie from Rennes which shld be finalised this week. I've not heard of this goalie before but reports say he is a 6ft 5in goalie but buying goalie is a bit of a lottery frankly esp for EPL as the game in England is physical so some goalies take awhile to settle in like DDG.

Kepa is good but kenna played out by the defenders and Lampard tactics.... 

Look at the defenders, everytime Kepa got the ball, be it goal kick, the defenders move out left & right and that tactics been told by manager to move from the rear. As such, Pool attackers and midfielders already catch up with them and poor Kepa, no where to pass to. Lampard should have just told them to play accordingly and not from the back line..... 

That mistake where Mane scored 2nd goal, Jorginho was to move more to the left outside penalty box but just stand there waiting for Kepa to pass he ball to him whilst Mane was speeding toward the goalkeeper. So Kepa trying to chip over Mane but too late, Mane manage to caught it with his rising right foot. 

If only Jorginho run forward to meet check up on Mane, Kepa may have blast the ball to the middle of the field.  

Defenders are there to protect the goalkeeper not stress him out.

i only watch first 1/2 

i feel quite even for both side, pools had more procession, but chelsea look more dangerous on the counter.

until that stupid red card, i off my tv after that..........

Like Bravo...brought in to play with his legs instead...i really wondered why...left MC with 6 trophies after 4 years...not bad liao lah but the remaining 3 years as backup goalie.

These days goalies expected to be good with their feet and with good distribution. The goalie that suffered the most due to this was Joe Hart and to a lesser extent Petr Cech at Arsenal was also exposed but his goalkeeping is solid so they still retained him. Kepa is supposed to be good with his feet but he got caught out last night and Mane is so quick that he punished him. I old school don't like this playing in your own box esp against teams like Pool, City who are so good at pressing.

When goalie was instruct to play from back this already increase the chance for mistake.

Even experience goalie like Alisson of Pool also kena (he is lucky that didn't affect the outcome).

Ya lah that's why I don't like. Pep has a philosophy that even if u get punished 1-2 times, the pros of this ie drawing the opponent out will have more rewards than punishment hence still worth it. I beg to differ but he is one of the top coaches in World football, I only keyboard warrior haha☺️

Nobody expects Chelsea to gel so quickly with 6-8 new players but of course expectations are high after spending more than 200mil. I would think a 3rd place finish with much closer points diff to the big 2 plus a domestic Cup win and going far in UCL is the minimum expectation. Lampard will be judged by these benchmarks n Roman A is not a patient man whether u r legend or not. Pochettino is waiting for either Man U or Chelsea job if either Ole or Lampard is axed from what I read.

yes, Pool played safe as usual, just went for safe possession most of the time, waiting for lobangs to pounce. Chelsea played on counter when managed to evade Pool's pressing, which means quite a few players committed upfield but no result... and Chelsea did have a few decent chances.

that red card, really unnecessarily. If let Mane through and scored, at least 11 players, still got fighting chance. Once down, it was tough liao.

Read report that one of Pool's tech team members cheered when Ref changed to red card, then kanna F by Klopp... Hope Lampard will not feel so sore about Klopp... Klopp is doing things right, all round.

Actually quite long never see those type pressing goalies end with reward. The last time i remember seeing it was Lallana charged one down and scored, but that was like at least 3-4 seasons ago?

Goalies should learn from mistakes, preferably other goalies' ones lah. Why take such risks...

is this the same as those who park their cars but never put coupons? Even if one month kanna fined once pay $50, they find it worthwhile cos had saved significant amt already... 😆

This is the correct attitude so Klopp deserves praise for this. It's about respecting opponents and not cheering due to opponents misfortune but admittedly human being human n with such small margins, quite natural u get carried away in the heat of the moment.

Bopian leh, coach these days insist on playing from the back n goalies are measured on their ability to play with feet and start attacks as much as their shot stopping abilities.

Man City finally kicked off their EPL campaign with a 3-1 win at Wolves. Seems like still City and Pool to fight for the title! Not easy to win at Wolves.
