Renegotiation is different from termination.  Every agreement is subject to renegotiation by mutual agreement and since this agreement has an exit clause, both parties will be willing to come to the table unless they are both seeking to end the agreement.

There is nothing wrong with seeking to renegotiate the agreement from either side so CCS is not wrong. He probably means that they don't wanna give up the benefits of the agreement.

thanks a lot for the new piece of information. It does shed new light on the position of the government. Really appreciate it.

Ultimately, it is probably the benefits of the CECA is more than the "bad stuff". Although there is clause in unilaterally terminating it, I don't think either government will easily exercise it, especially Singapore who relies on Trade. If we start terminating FTAs unilaterally, it will still impact on our image and how much time and effort other countries will put in negotiating FTAs with us.

CCS publicly announced there were enough masks  during the earlier phase of covid 19 also. It os very tough for SGPrean who have to always verify if what a minister said is true or has a GOOD intention behind ....😅😅😅😅

Perhaps I've got amnesia, I'm unable to recall anything which this Cotton Chan said that holds ground. The removal of him and CECA may actually benefit the local Singaproeans.

If MOM release the names of the company who destroy the Family life’s Of singaporean . And there is a boycott of the product, and the company close shop, would that not cause a greater unemployment?

from what I read so far, there is no legality for discrimination against singaporean base on anything illegal. Else , those earlier 1200 ceos would have gone to jail.

1. You cant touch ceca rules. Its cast in stone.

2. Majority of the ceca types that come here are no better than locals. But they prop up the property market, so there.

Not about you win or he win, if a problem can be  so easily worked around, all MCFers like you and me will take the MP salaries and become MPs. Nobody here said the problem has an easy work around, who drafted, agreed and signed on the agreement ? Those who collect high salary and supposed to work for the people should go do it, not the other way round.  Why try so hard to defend here ?

First we have to acknowledge there is a problem, then we can fix it.

Now that is a big problem... wtf actually benefits from property inflation?

The ceca come,  earn money,  flip property ... all will eventually be at citizens expense... no job plus expensive housing. 🤔🤯.. while the cecas go home laughing. I realllyyyyy wonder what .. or who.. the benefits are for? And are the long term damage worth it?

Boycott? Eg Those global retail banks dont even serve the people who care about this issue. Their sg clients  are probably companies who do the same.

Yes precisely! No one actually realise it here. All they care is the value of their property or to some collection of rental on their speculative 2nd/3rd properties. All these artificial wealth is nothing but just a bubble. Everyone else will benefit except local born Singaporeans in the long run.

And thats my point really. We dont know which segement and profile of the FT in question.

If its an investement bank that manages VHNI and racking in tonnes of money for them and the swf, you think it will interest them.?

If the MIW is not interested in the locals welfare, whats stopping them to take care of their own country men back home.?

Got problem? Depends on who you ask... Lol

The Indians are pissed that we are not approving as many EP and ICT as they think are their entitlements under CECA.  Singaporeans are pissed that G is trading away local jobs for access to the huge Indian market.  Of course someone is happy with CECA but not many middle aged PMET, I think.

Wind30 think it is a competitiveness issue, notwithstanding India's 1.4 billion people and strong village culture. But after 3 GEs, most people can see and feel the trade-offs.

We are however an immigrant society, so we will continue to import real foreign talents but CECA can't be that template. With Covid-19, PMET unemployment and underemployment will rise, G will have its hands full but they are paid millions, so i am sure we have the best Captains at the helm.  😀😄😅😂
