Life is definitely going to be  tougher for our future generations.

I only have 1 simple wish and I hope my children will not disappoint me.

I  just want them to be 富二代.

Some might think taxpayers money should be spent on locals but I actually think this is a relatively low cost and impactful way to attract young talents.

Take the cream of the crop from India to China to South East Asia and take a bet that some will assimilate and stay with us.

Happy to hear views.

How Singapore’s foreign talent scheme nurtured Chinese founders of Shopee, Free Fire

David Chen, Forrest Li and Gang Ye founded Sea Ltd in 2009. Backed by Tencent, it’s worth US$51 billion, thanks to the Free Fire game and Shopee app

They moved from mainland China to Singapore as part of a government effort to recruit foreign talent, through scholarships and access to capital

Right...spot on...i wholeheartedly agree...these are the talents we need...seriously..

However.....alas the situation now is something like when the tap is overflowing with "talents" whose paper qualifications came out of a colour printer in Uptron College. Those are the 'talents' many of us take exception to...apologies but i just cannot subscribe to these fraudsters...

No such thing now.

China has grown in affluence tremendously over the past 15 years. Marrying abroad to gain a better life is becoming less of an only way out of poverty.

Buying a Vietnam wife is however still in trend now though...😆

Basically, having and raising a child should be just part of the process ... no need to crack brain and think too much. If you do anaylsis, it is NEVER worth it - because all the joys and benefits are intangible, but the drawbacks all can be measured in terms of $.

But nowadays a lot of younger couples think too much and over-plan, thus never get around to growing a family. Nonethelss, have observed that for those families that do have children, many now have 2, 3 kids.

Nah, my post is not about thinking so much when having kids but top paid leaders with best brains fail to understand what's the real reason on the ground reducing birth rates.

Their policies are heavily geared towards reducing cost for having kids but is that the main reason in the first place? Or is or are there equally compelling reasons that birth rates are dropping? Simple peasant like me know that something is not right when you throw TONs of money into policies and it just go worse :secret-laugh:instead.

Elitist brains are really quite different

To be fairer, declining birth rates may or may not be attributed to PAP's shitty policies in driving costs up alone.

With the  younger generation, starting a family is not longer regarded as the societal norm. We can provide the best possible environment like what the Scandinavian countries are doing, and its likely we still cannot convince a good part of this demographic that starting a family is the key to happiness and that's what every good human should be doing. It's much more of a personal choice now to commit to have kids, rather than societal conditioning / norms as the past.

Having said that, I don't disagree with you. Perhaps, they should consider how to make SG INC a more hospitable place for those ALREADY with kids and for these kids in the future, even before they start thinking about throwing more money to persuade people to give birth. Paying attention to fairer employment practices and thus preserving a reasonable standard of livelihood is just one of the many points of focus to start off with.

To me, that's only logical. You have to convince these people sitting on the sidelines thinking hard, not wanting to give birth. The best way to convince is to have concrete actions to show that you start giving a damn to the livelihoods of these existing parents, and laying the groundwork for the future of their kids. I mean, even within the animal kingdom, animals don't give birth if the conditions are not hospitable (ie Polar bears in the artic). Unless, you are convinced that your system can raise an entire population who are as hardy as cockroaches and will breed no matter what, I still stand by what I've said.

I am not sure who these folks are but I know some of them are CCP 党员 members...even some of my workplace PRC colleagues are...

Ok OT a bit...I am a member of the local Chinese clan (those bo chup type member) just show up for yearly CNY and Mid-Autumn celebrations type....and in recent years..there was an influx of PRC members..soon I heard they took over the exec comm via the yearly committee 'elections'...

Last I heard, the new exco 'overhauled' the 'election' and 'resolutions' requirements...and I heard an appeal from the local true blue members asking us to go vote against the changes...then CB happened and I lost touch of this episode since then. If it is really what you mention..the so called UFW..I think the govt better get up close and personal with such local social developments on all these clans and clubs..to prevent 'invasion' by these FTs..

FTs snatching jobs are bad enough..we don't need FTs with a political agenda to further come in and run our lives..

I don't think anyone is complaining about the scenario that the German firm has quoted.

For decades, Japanese, American and Europeans companies have set up shop here, and they were mostly helmed by their own guys, sometimes assisted by their own guys in certain managerial positions but hired mostly locals. That's fine, everyone understands, there is no need to explain further.

But the situation in the past decade has been very different.

There are now many Japanese, American and European companies filled with CECA across various levels. Some have pointed out the HR function of these foreign companies are filled exclusively by CECA. Then there are stories and accounts of locals being forced out. Lately we hear companies that hired mostly foreigners instead of locals. I have also read accounts of their competencies and their work ethic.

I blame this squarely on pap. They farking opened the floodgate to 1 country that now has 860k FT (excluding dependents) here. Our Singaporean population is only 3.5m btw.
