I suspect all the firing will dry up today. Tomorrow is when someone will wipe a tear or two and tell a tale of needing to improve and listen to the voters.

So fast?....did i miss the TCB + PT vs CCS + GKY covid debate.?😑

There's the talk on job priority for our ppl. I read with a pinch of salt.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/ge2020-sengkang-grc-jobs-top-priority-pap-12901368

It basically talk about existing job schemes and help centers. If I'm not wrong it's none other than skillsfuture. We had a thread on this and some of us looked into what it's about. The courses that the govt schools and govt affiliated companies who provide the training are not free. I dunno how much assistance is given but I have a lot of doubts about it.

So for those who lost their jobs and is looking forward to what they had mentioned. Be careful.

All BS la.. the skillfuture is supposed to get u skilled.. But got to co-pay.

Besides, as I mentioned in the other post, employers look at experience, not paper. Unless u are looking at entry level jobs, u can forget about getting the job simply with the cert.

Next, their Careerfuture portal. No difference from others such as LinkedIn and JobsDB.

No advantage to Singaporeans using that site.

When I was jobless the past 6 months, not a single response from jobs advertised in Careerfuture.

They will be more successful if there's a legislated KPI on how many Singaporeans hired thru the portal. Otherwise, it's just another website.

As for the job boards at CC... U can simply forget it to avoid disappointment. Mostly listed were drivers, dish washers, laborer, childcare center helper or teachers. PMET was like 1 in 100.

It's the fundamentals. Lesser jobs are out there. Many jobs Singaporeans can do have been held by foreigners and MOM has not done anything to revoke those passes. Once u free them up, u will solve a large part of the problem.

So...I eventually got my job thru my own network. Wait for them...wait long long.

I am saying it here on the forums for you guys to see. You mean I have to write to the PAP and communicate this to them as well?

Why not? You seem to have no issue defending them here. If you care enough about the issue why not advise your "own peeps"?

Yes we have to.

Just lift the elastic band, trim and then put back.

Haha...that's what I expected. Disappointment.

They cant use this so call "jobs priority" as a political tool. It will fail miserably. A lot of low paid jobs are made irrelevant because of the high cost of living. Ppl have to work 2 or even 3 low paid jobs to make ends meet. They so want to raise gst somemore.

They are simply putting our lives at risk of the pandemic cos they think this is a better political leverage for them by selling the insecure future propaganda. I hope it backfires in their faces.

Good that you share.

I did not realize that saying they have done a good job means I am affliated with them and they are now my people.

I am merely a citizen who has benefitted (mildly) from their leadership and policies but not enough such that I have enough money (like you guys) to risk my retirement on an untested team.

It's all fine and dandy to laugh at people who vote for the government because we get chicken rice and $600 but these are the people that really need and appreciate the moment. I am sure many of them would love to be in a situation where can do without this sum.

😁.....and you will hardly hear from the "Career Coach" assigned to you except 1-2 weeks before expiry of 6 months from the date of enrollment asking if you've already found employment! All thanks to Hyderabad Heng and Small Space Jo!

"Affiliation" is nebulous.

But you seem to care about the PAP and support them. Would that be a fair assessment?

Let me put it this way. I have a close personal friend who's the Chairman of one of the major oppo parties. I give him personal feedback on anything he might have said that I disagree with, or the messaging might not have gone down well.

Of course, I have friends in the PAP as well - many more actually but I treat them as friends and nothing else. I don't talk politics with them because, frankly, I don't much care about the welfare of the party as I don't agree with their conduct. Anyway, once they don white, they'll conduct themselves according to party doctrine, so what would be the point of my dissenting voice or even friendly caution?

Could I be doing more? Of course. I am admittedly not very politically engaged. I do not belong to any party nor will I. But for the parties I care about and which my values more or less align with, I do engage them with feedback, and it's generally appreciated.

So what I was suggesting is that if you're similarly concerned about the ruling party's welfare (and that includes how they conduct themselves on the political battleground), you might want to do more with your advice than offer it for free on a public forum where it will become smoke in the wind.

But you've illustrated an important point : the bulk of the ruling party's support comes from "cari makan" hoi polloi who are politically disengaged (and often disinterested) for the most part. That's the sad reality. And I say "sad" because it's not at all healthy for our long term socio-political health as a nation.

Anyway, do as you please. Cheers.

You are expecting PAP to lose its majority, thus risking your retirement fund?
