I really hope we can have Jamus in the parliament to take on the incumbent.  With his knowledge & background,  they don't dare to take him lightly.  

Whoever try to challenge his opinion will probably think THRICE not twice.

What do you say to his suggestion of drawing on your CPF when you are unemployed for a certain duration for 3 months? That obviously is sustainable...

I do object to him treating the employed poor and the unemployed poor equally in his analysis by trying to give 80% of cash needs to all of them. Common sense... I think the unemployed poor can only give 50%. 

Imagine if the cash needs is 1000 per pax. The employed poor salary is $600 and if we follow this Yeoh guy, he would get $200. While the unemployed poor gets $800.

Besides, there is a much bigger proportion of employed poor vs unemployed poor.

Unemployed get 800 for 3 months max while employed poor get 200 as long as he work.

Sometimes it's not the maths.

I went back and skim through the video one more time to see if I have misunderstood it.

The three months max was for WAGES, not minimum income, ie once you lose your jobs you can claim your previous wages for three months. He said to fund it from your own CPF which is  a pretty good idea.

His minimum income proposal for the poor (whether employed, unemployed or the elderly) does not have a time limit. He does not even want to do testing or application and as long as your household income is really low, you get the money. 

err... so clean my ears or yours? sigh why can't we just keep it to the video. 

Anyway, there are a lot of implications some of which can be unforeseen if you don't bother to think deeply.

I am not an expert in this but the most obvious thing I see is if there are 75k working poor who even though they work cannot make it to the 80% of the minimum income. There are also 35k unemployed poor who has no income. Are we to top up to 80% minimum income for everyone irrespective of whether they are working or not??? Like that the working guy might as well stop working.

I would think we have to think hard whether we want our society to evolve into a welfare state that is not sustainable, as what we are seeing in the ang mo countries. We cannot keep printing money, and how many times can we raid our reserves before we become a poor country without any natural resources. 

I would be weary of such solutions. But that is just me. You are free to make your own conclusions to suit your needs and give them your vote if you think they are going to solve the problems.

This is so elitist and used by PAP before 2011 to counter ANY social programme proposed by the opposition, now they don't speak that way anymore. They know it will sound high-handed and unsympathetic and after 2011, they did spent more but continued to accumulate a lot of reserves. 

It is a fact that there is a group of Singaporeans who are living hands to mouth and needed help. It is a fact that the inequality is widening and the country has the capability and ability to help the downtrodden to close the gap a little. 

Yawn... For some, any spending is about raiding the reserves, welfare state, handouts, etc etc... there is no middle ground, it goes straight from the right to the extreme left.  End of discussion.

Did real subsidised HDB flats (eons ago) and free healthcare at polyclinic for the old when it was first implemented bankrupted the state?

The ceca was signed. Same as the water agreement with Malaysia was signed many years ago. 
if we don’t like it now, we can unilaterally break it, with the corresponding implications on all the other agreements other countries has signed with us.

if we don’t want to unilaterally break it, we need to convince India and give them something.

Err Bro i dun understand your logic leh

Lets say i have an agreement with my neighbour that he, his wife and his kids can come to my house anytime.  However after one year, i don't like his  kids becos they were noisy.  So now I want to tell my neighbour that only  he and his wife can visit my house,  I have to give him prata and curry  to appease him?  

Bro whose house is it to begin with?  Mine!
