i think its not about who is talking tougher.

its about who can mobilise support on a wide front.

Trump, no matter how tough he talks, cannot do it cos he pissed off too many allies... loud thunder small rain.

Biden... assuming he wins...  even if he is more moderate, he surely can  get more countries on his side, having a bigger real impact, im sure china is aware of it, so in fact, maybe china would prefer Trump instead.

That is assuming Biden is prepared to confront China like what Trump is doing. He is supposed to favor engagement.

considering its own actions all along... i wonder if they realise just how hypocritical and turnoff they are when they go about lecturing people.

Another salvo from US

US plans registration requirement for China's Confucius Institutes: Report

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/us-china-relations-confucius-institutes-foreign-missions-13016060

"Last year, the US State and Education Departments promised stricter monitoring of the institutes, which have been criticised in Congress and elsewhere as de facto propaganda arms of China's Communist government."

Should read this comment.. This comment is cold hard truth..

Sometimes reading people comment is better then reading the news article itself. I am not saying don't read these news articles, but beside reading news articles, it is also good to read people comments. As sometimes people comments do give insights on what is actually happening on the ground with reference to that news articles. Sometimes there are very intelligent people who will comment and give very interesting insights that is food for thoughts. We can learnt a lot of things from these people comment too..

oh i read that.. and i think its missing the whole point.

its about trade reciprocity... we talking multi billion dollar at stake. its like demanding the "right" of flooding singapore with cecas while no reciprocal rights/benefits are given... all in the name of "freedom of labour" etc or some other argument...

invoking freedom of speech is rich... mixing platform with speech. there are plenty platforms the content can still go to, the "speech" isnt banned. content on that platform will not change even if ownership changes hand. the writer sounds like some whining tik tok video maker trying to use big words without understanding anything.

The argument is still valid against complaints originating from China, ie China cannot complain that USA actions is unfair.

The right way is for China to open up if they want others to reciprocate. Let facebook and google in

Z's argument is also flawed. Instead of saying "Censoring stuff from another country because they censor your stuff is like shooting yourself because someone else is shooting themselves", should have said "..is like shooting others because they are shooting at you." So I won't call it "cold hard truth", but rather opinion with likely personal agenda.
