Saw the toyota cross hybrid at the recent motorshow and the specs were mighty impressive - 196hp, 0-100kmh in 7.7s. Will outrun most Hondas on the road (ouch to the i-vtec). Online reviews were not so good though, at least from what I saw.

for a COE @ $106k - is the Subaru Impreza 5D at $127.8k the best fire deal ever? Before they update it to the 2024 facelift version..

What not so good reviews?

Hi Freeder,

inlinesix is correct. Here are the numbers on how I came up with 50% of OMV.

Òpen Market Value (OMV) = $29,007.00

Additional Registration Fee (ARF) = $32,609.8

Excise Duty (20% of OMV) = $5,801.40

Goods and Services Tax (GST) =$2,784.67 [8% (includes OMV+Excise Duty) as of 2023]

Certificate of Entitlement (CoE) = $108,373.00 [Category B (car above 1600cc and 130bhp) as at Jan 2023]

Vehicle Emissions Scheme (VES) =  -$15,000.00[ Category B]

IU = $160.50

Registration fixed rate = $220.00

sub-Total = $163,956.37
Current sales price = $178,488.00
Dealer markup = $14,531.63
% Dealer markup based on OMV = 50.10%

Inchcape's (the parent company of Borneo Motors) margin for each Toyota Corolla Cross sold to the consumer appears high, but at least Inchcape is passing on some of the VES rebate to the consumer. When looking the Forester hybrid's margin earned by Motor Image, it's double that of Borneo Motors.

Singapore is one of the few places in the world where dealers have such huge margins. Its a lucrative business for the likes of Tan Chong International that run the Nissan and Subaru franchises in Singapore.

@13177 likely, the taiwan market has lots of corolla cross and likely also in the western markets where the 2.0 is sold in, so the 2L version is quite well-received overseas

@13177 the Subaru Forester hybrid ($172,800) is a good alternative to the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid ($178,488).

The reason why the Forester is cheaper is due to the low OMV of $19,903 vs. the Corolla Cross hybrid OMV of $29,007. Don’t know how Motor Image is able to have a such low OMV, but they’re making close of 100% margin on the sales price.

For the Corolla Cross hybrid, Borneo Motors seems to passing on the -$15k VES rebate to the consumer whilst making a decent 50% margin on the sales price.

I like the Forester, as its a lot roomier on the inside and can easily fit three adults in the back seats. Unfortunately, its going to cost more at the pump to keep it on the road compared to the Corolla Cross in terms of FC.

Forester hybrid FC: 14.5km/L

Corolla Cross hybrid FC: 18.8km/L

If Subaru gets its act together and improve the boxer engine to pollute less, it should be able to get the VES rebate of -$15k and into A2 band - just like Corolla Cross. The hybrid system can be copied from Toyota (who owns a significant share of Subaru) and thus the FC can also be improved to narrow the difference to the Corolla Cross hybrid. If these cost savings can be passed down to the consumer, I reckon Subaru will have a huge winner.

The forester is a mild hybrid is only marginally better in FC than the normal forester. It's quite different from a hybrid. The normal 2L forester FC is really quite bad, in real world driving, you'd be happy to get above 10km/L. I have 2 friends driving that.

Besides the FC, the drive performance of the 2.0L hybrid is also likely to be miles ahead of the forester. 0-100 in 7.7 seconds is nothing to be scoffed at. The corolla cross hybrid is a also a much newer model.

Oh well... i'm the rare minority that considers driving performance/dynamics when i buy a car 😅. For most Singaporean drivers, only 2 things they care about for any pricing level of cars:  Size and the branding.

If there is ever a 1.0L Cat A forester, it WILL sell like hot cakes. Confirm + chop!

@Rickster The Forester hybrid is also a bigger an heavier car compared to the Corolla Cross hybrid. With the current 1,995cc with 148bhp, the Forester's sprint is a leisurely 11.8s. The Cat A CoE limitation of both engine capacity (less than 1,600cc) as well power (130bhp). If such an engine makes its way into the 1,682 kg Forester, it's going struggle.

The Corolla Cross hybrid is smaller and lighter car - kerb weight of 1,440 kg. A 242kg advantage that the Carolla Cross hybrid's 1,987cc engine and with a combined power output of 196bhp makes it a good performer in the zero to 100 km/hr sprint of 7.7s and an amazing FC of 18.8km/L.

Think the Forester is in another category that's competing with the Toyota RAV 4 hybrid rather than the Carolla Cross hybrid.

Test drove the Corolla Cross at Ubi last weekend, it's a registered unit.

I think those who like the Corolla Altis but prefer a high ride height will like the Corolla Cross; interior fascia and layout similar; so basically it's like riding a higher Altis.

Space wise similar to Mazda CX-30. At the back the Corolla Cross has marginally more knee room due to smaller and slimmer front seats, and marginally more headroom but the width of its rear seat is narrower as it was located further aft between the rear wheel wells.

Those who find that the RAV4 an overkill and the Yaris Cross too low-rung will find the Corolla Cross quite an optimal balance.

But if compare as branding, thought toyota should be more popular than subaru? Lol.

FC for normal forester is so bad and yet still can see many forester on the road le?

If forester should be competing with the RAV4, then the forester price really consider very cheap liao. Forester around 172k and RAV4 around $210k.

I think those who bought forester they placed higher priority on its AWD feature and interior space and so just bite the bullet on its fuel consumption.

But given the size, weight, boxy aerodynamic and AWD of the forester, its real world fuel consumption isn't that horrible right?

Test drove at Leng Kee😂 last evening..

Quite powerful and quiet engine ..

Interior wise very plasticky but headroom was surprisingly good.

Also test drove the harrier and the drive was smoother and surprisingly quick during move off ..

Interior a notch lower than UX 😅

Price diff abt 40k and waiting time abt 3-4 mths..

Trade-in offer was shitty as usual and I told the SE will call her if need further assistance.

Maybe can consider a used Harrier Hybrid 😅

Based on recent Carshow price, Hybrid Forester price at 165K, the mark up based on OMV of 19.9K is about 58%. Slightly higher than Cross.
