is the corolla cross hybrid more peppy and smoother than the i30 with the DCT?

Smoother for sure. Power delivery is linear although for me it takes some getting used to having no physical gears shifting, since in the last decade I have grown accustomed to DCTs in my current and previous cars.

In mid-range, the i30 feels livelier when the turbo is on song and all 242Nm of torque are in play, but the Corolla Cross Hybrid is definitely no slouch.

It's really hard to compare them like for like (turbo vs. hybrid, CVT vs. DCT) but what really matters IMHO, is that both are good for Singapore traffic where we need that torque at lower RPMs to slot into gaps in traffic when we change lanes.

@iamahbee didn't know there's a difference in the looks until you mentioned it, and the badge also different. BM's one is essentially a mini RAV4 then

The drivetrain is also different. BM import is 2.0L M20A-FXS Dynamic Force engine with a new lithium-ion battery for the hybrid system, while PI are the older 1.8L 2ZR engine with nickel-metal hydride battery.

This is BM's test drive unit.20221206_140352.thumb.jpg.69a5c814399f3e2ad0d2e32b6e6be665.jpg

@iamahbee side track abit. I wonder why the Lexus ES and IS hybrid do not use the 2.0L M20A-FXS Dynamic Force engine.

The XZ10 ES300H uses A25A-FXS Dynamic Force which is basically the same family as M20A. The latest IS300H is essentially a facelift of the XE30 model launched in 2013 hence it retains the 2AR engine. Only the UX250H utilises M20A-FXS.

ES and UX are on TNGA platform. The IS is still underpinned by the New N platform.

Looks like this car looks nicer under the shade. Lol. The unit inside the showroom looks good, maybe due to the car colour and the lighting in the showroom. So what colour is the unit inside the showroom?
