Blueray Hypersonic June 5, 2020 Share June 5, 2020 COVID-19: Contact tracing devices to be rolled out 'soon', distributed to everyone in Singapore Quote SINGAPORE: The Government is developing and will "soon" roll out a portable and wearable contact tracing device, Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation initiative Vivian Balakrishnan told Parliament on Friday (Jun 5). "If this portable device works, we may then distribute it to everyone in Singapore," he said. "And I believe this will be more inclusive, and it will ensure that all of us will be protected." Wind30 Turbocharged June 5, 2020 Share June 5, 2020 I thought the big news to me is that the trace together app does not work if it is at the background for iPhones.... duh.... they never thought about this before they spend millions developing their app??? That is like a functional fail. who leaves the app in the foreground. Another big waste of money.

Cos the dongle or whatever definitely needs personal data inside which is sent out online (that's why you can be tracked). You can off a handphone or whatever to prevent data from being intercepted but a dongle or tracking device by nature needs to be transmitting clearly at all times which puts the wearer at risk (and if it's easy to block the signal then it's pointless having the dongle in the first place). Of cos then potentially if the govt wants everyone to have it, they can instill fear in people. Did you attend an opposition rally? Did you attend a talk at SDP/WP HQ? The govt knows. Now the govt probably can't do much if thousands and thousands are attending but the fear that they might is not something to be underestimated.

Expand It doesnt work on the elderly or children who dont use smartphones. They are also the vulnerable group. I think that's why they would want to switch to a wearable tracking device. For an app to be "Always On" is also not that practical or effective. The current QR code is also quite troublesome, have to do it manually. We have to use manpower to make sure ppl has "check-in". Hopefully the wearable tracking device is less of a hassle and fuss free.

Etnt Turbocharged June 5, 2020 Share June 5, 2020 1 more device to carry, 1 more device to charge. More people will keep their phone charged than another peripheral device. Till date, tracetogether (even with today's update) is still not using apple's exposure api. ↡ Advertisement
