And to TS, there are indeed 3 routes to Kuantan :

1) NSH -> Karak Highway -> Kuantan. Highway all the way.

2) NSH -> Exit Yong Peng -> Route 1 -> Route 12 -> Kuantan. Half highway, half jungle.

3) Route 3 -> Kuantan. All the way B roads, hugging the east coast, the most scenic route. I always take this route, about 5-6 hrs drive. Leave SG 6am, 12-1pm reach Kuantan.

4. NSH -> Ayer Hitam -> Route 50 -> Route 3

Combination of highway, back road & scenic route

Karak highway is too far north.

I ever went by Segamat cut across to the highway to Kuantan.

Those driving fast cars prefer to stick to the highway.

I think it's best to go from SG to Kuantan via Penang

SG-KL-Ipoh-Penang-Gerik-Kelantan-Terangganu-Kuantan

Route 3 the best. To Kuantan why use HW.

Your previous A6 also not slow.

Done a road trip to Kuantan and surroundings last month.  
Took a route diversion because I wanna try more B roads and explore non conventional routes. 
 

B/fast at Ayer Hitam, then route 1   >1385 (Jln Felda Redong)   > 2490  >joins route 12   >E8    >101  >route3 to Samsuria Beach.   This route skipped Segamat town. 
Very light traffic throughout although it’s a Sunday.  Enjoyable drive, esp during pit stops in small villages, got to enjoy freshly fried Lekok, goreng pisang, warm roasted Chestnuts……

So lucky to be able to witness sea turtle laying eggs on our first night there, despite the closure of all the known shops that handled this sort of activity.  Was driving along this stretch of beach just south of Chukai after dinner, about 9.30pm because one of my passengers googled that there’s supposed to have a shed at the end of that coastal drive where turtle watch organiser is stationed.  To our dismay, the shed was gone, just sand and small trees.  

Disappointed, while driving away fr the beach,  saw a group of 5 chatting around their cars.  Found that they & a guide were waiting for their rangers to spot any turtle coming up the beach.  They were very nice to let us join (with a fee, of course) because it was a privately arranged group. Managed to watch one turtle laid eggs that night after 1.5 hrs wait and nearby too.   

The guide told us it’s a Green Turtle. Felt sad for the turtle because it won’t be able to see it’s young after this.

Checked out another location, hoping to be able to release young turtles.  Drove along Pantai Chendor till road ends.  
Walked a short distance to this hatchery but nobody around. The interior was filled with dust and cobwebs.  Most probably this is another victim of COVID closure.  Hopefully it reopens when more tourists arrive.

Why the turtle eggs all lay nicely?  They removed all the turtle eggs and not let it naturally hatch?

@Tohto haha.  They laid it out nicely for tourists to take pics and also for counting.  Dunno if they still collect to hatch & release.  Have seen turtle eggs being sold in markets in Terengganu.  Probably when there’s excess.

That's is not good.  Should just leave it alone.
