I test driven it 2 days ago due to curiosity. 1) The gear shift if the new DCT is much better tuned than the previous X1 DCT and even the 218i gran coupe. 2) The interior design is a quantum leap from previous generation. Coming close to Merc, but that is my subjective personal opinion. 3) The NVH of the car seems to have been significantly improved over the previous X1 and 218/216i gran coupe and even the 218i active tourer. 4) It's noticeably larger, both inside and outside Vs the previous generation. Feels more like the X3. 5) The drive, from 0-50, it feels adequate from traffic light to traffic light hops. From 60 onwards, even when I floor the pedal, I'm convinced that when I buy this car, my low blood pressure will be cured 😆😆😆 Edited December 31, 2022 by Rickster ↡ Advertisement 3

Why? bcos 90% of the ppl only tap their pedal, leg no strength to push down.

Somehow I don't see that when I'm on the expressway when the middle land is often hogged by vehicles travelling at 60-70km/hr when the left lane is clear. Try overtaking with a low BHP car, you'll get what i mean. Usually either you have to wait a looong time, or end up doing a lane switch that will cause the car behind to brake and send their regards to your ancestors. 😅 The above no apply to road hoggers and those who like to cruise at 60km/hr in middle lane or 80 km/hr on lane 1 on expressway. 2

A lot of times, it is power to weight ratio that's important. Bare minimum is 1hp to 10kg.

Carbon82 Moderator January 3, 2023 Author Share January 3, 2023 Strange that we have over 10 pages of discussions revolving mainly around the detuned 1.5L cat A engine of the new X1, but everyone seems to have forgotten about another premium cat A compact SUV, the GLA180 (and it larger sibling - GLB180). I agree that in local context, with more start stop traffic than above speed limit highway drive, a sub 130hp (with a least 200Nm torque) is adequate (of course power is never enough for the petrol head like many of us). It is a different story for trips on the NSHW. I started with a humble 110hp / 148Nm 1.5 N.A. sedan when I first venture up north and I was sharing with my friends that the car is powerful enough to hit ~180km/h, overtaking Proton and KANCIL along the way without much difficulty. Then when I moved on to a 156hp / 192Nm 2.0 N.A. MPV, I find that going up Genting was fun, although I do lose out to heavily mod City and Vios occasionally. Next a 200hp / 280Nm 2.0 TC sedan put smiles on my face when I able to hit >200km/h in a much shorter time than my previous rides, and a breeze to drive up to Cameron Highland. And just last week, when I took my 315hp / 400Nm SUV onto the NSHW, I then realized what I have been missing... Morale of the story: If one have never taste 山珍海味, he/she is unlikely to crave for it and tiger prawn, sea bass, cuttlefish are already heavenly to them. 12

Much agreed with you, have driven many powerful cars and also less powerful cars, can easily overtake other bigger cars with my less powerful car. Sometimes it’s putting foot to the pedal when needed. The new X1 really does it’s job well in its class more than most other cars and can easily overtake many cars even in mid range depending on how you drive. My customer so far has been very happy with it after his collection and is very pleased with the handling. Another that has own an EA888 car is also quite happy with it when he test driven it and is very pleased with the performance for this category. Of course, we can’t put it in the context of Golf R, RS3, Evo, FK8, M3C range but in the mainstream line of cars, it is more than enough. My own opinion. 😁
