I beg to differ.  

While I don't own the X1 nor have the slightest intention to get it (can't accept the ridiculously low HP), I think the X1 will give most car buyers in SG the feeling of luxury over a RAV4. Most SG car drivers don't rank power/handling of a car high on the list. 

So in a sense, the new X1 meets the checklist of most local car buyers in the key areas of space, branding, lux feel and arguably, looks.

Yes, driving an underpowered car is highly frustrating regardless if it handles well or not at high speed.

Esp in SG when the lane change signal is often interpreted as a sign for the other driver to step on the gas to close the gap/cut u off.

I assume you shortlisted these 2 means you can afford both. Buy a car that puts a smile on your face every day (not to put a smile on others). VFM doesn't last long if you aren't looking for a pt A to B ride. Just my personal take. 😊

120% absolutely agree with you.. car is emotional to me for sure.. and I have driven cars my head ask me to go for and it’s 🥲 hahaha.

To be honest, it actually drives quite well despite its 122bhp/230nm torque profile. The gearbox is very well mated to the engine and the handling is top in its class. I feel it’s probably best in its class now even comparing to the cat B 150/250 competitor in this category. Have to drive to feel it.

If your priority is built quality and ride comfort, I think the X1 may suit you more. 

For me, I'll likely get the qashqai as I'm one of the minority that ranks power and handling high on my list.

In fact, for most local drivers, even the mazda 3 and altis is more than enough to suffice them in terms of power. Let alone your X1.

I'll highly recommend the new X1 to most buyers as I feel it looks damn chio, big size, feels solid and ranks high on the "Feel good factor".

But I won't get it. For me personally, spirited driving ranks high on my list.

Bro, i totally understand what you're talking about. I've owned BMW and Mercs.

BMW has always been the better car to drive against it's direct Merc competitor. My experience with the BMW ZF8HP has been highly satisfying, but I'm not a fan of their DCT transmission.

Personally, for BMWs and merc, nothing below x20i and x200 for me. As I always say, I'm the minority that cares about power (not to sports car level) and how the car drives.

it's not about power hunger or pedal-to-metal

it's drivability and agility ... x20i and x200 is the sweet spot ... 

of course if $$$ is not an issue ... everyone would have gotten a V6 nothing less or even V8 liao

for mere mortals in sinkieland ... 4pot 2L turbo is the heaven liao

the 3pot 1L or 1.5L turbo feeling is pay more for less

Hmmm.. now you make me curious about the new Qashqai.. but is it still the cvt? Oh ya I just check the profile of the new qashqai, 1332cc, mild hybrid, 9.2s 0-100 and cvt, I have a feeling I will very much prefer the X1 drive better. Just my opinion. 😁

Of course of course… the ZF8HP is 2nd to none. For the BMW DCT, I’m quite satisfied with their shifting point, thought it was rather sporty and comfortable on the new X1 with experience coming from the family of DSG transmission for 8 years. 🤣

Just thought that the new X1 drives really really well for its current power/torque output to size/weight ratio. So decided to just share a bit of my input here. Haha..

This is the one I'm talking about bro, yes it's the xtronic CVT. 

I've not tested this car before, I'm assuming it has sufficient power and drives well because of the review by Julian, no less.

Oh yes, the silky ZF, love it! 😍 I thought I would complain about the DCT when bmw first introduced it but I must say I am pleasantly surprised by the fast and smooth shift. 😃

The 7DCT is supplied by Getrag. For X1, iirc it was with aisin till ard 2019 in singapore that the batches came with wet DCT. I was very very hesitant on any DCT due vw's well known DSG stories but my fear is unfounded after using it for almost 4 yrs. I like its lightning response.
