wow if singapore allow no carplate in the front....the audi grill looks even better

Now the trend in grill design is, the bigger the mouth is, the better. it may end up, whole front is nothing but grill.

As we see that many cars are having large grill compared to last time.

Retains the same styling language of the current one, but the stance and cohesiveness of the design is far better.

No doubt with your statement but somehow this look more of a facelift than brand new generation, more evolutionary than revolutionary inside out.

Not much has changed for the new IS visually (or underneath, really, as the IS rides on the same platform). The sedan still wears the brand's signature spindle grille – albeit a revised "three-dimensional" version of it – which now comes accented by a larger lower intake and two larger accenting vents on either side.

Like its underpinnings, the inside of the 2021 Lexus IS isn't totally new either. But the refreshed cabin does offer a bit more in the way of tech. An 8.0-inch touchscreen comes standard – which is now three inches closer to the driver – while a larger 10.3-inch touchscreen is available as an option. Things like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility come standard, but the same maddening touchpad controller from the previous model carries over.

The 2021 Lexus IS uses the exact same engines as the previous model. And they each produce the same amount of power, too. The base IS 300 with rear-wheel drive keeps the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, good for 241 horsepower and 350Nm. The all-wheel-drive IS 300, meanwhile, gets a more powerful 3.5-liter V6 good 260 hp and 320Nm. And at the top of the range, the IS 350 – available in both RWD and AWD – gets a 3.5-liter V6 good for 311 hp and 380Nm.

Oh its not a new model!! Then very sad...I thought it would be a TNGA platform and all new car, after all the current one is 7 years old...sad sad...

Some of these questionable product development decisions must have been made a few years ago.

For a change like this (full exterior panel change), it is actually very expensive as they need to remake all the stamping molds for the new panels. So it is almost unheard of in Toyota history to do this. Usually they will just change the bumpers, lights and at most the bonnet and fender during minor change.

And yet do all this expensive re-tooling and retain same interior, same engines (uncompetitive) and same platform.

No wonder the head of Lexus was replaced last year, the previous head probably approved this type of stupid product development.

maybe it is just to keep the model alive with just minimal development. the SUV are the money spinners anyway. so don't plonk too much money on sedan platforms?

Neutral Newbie

Goodness, rather appalling half baked effort. Changes to the exterior but exact same interior as the previous model. Might as well kill off the IS rather than push out a half baked  'new model' that will just hasten its demise. The exterior IMO is quite nice and the package would be quite complete if the dashboard and cabin design had been similar to the UX. The camry's interior looks more modern than this IS's interior, LOL. Hope Lexus doesn't go down the same road as Infiniti......

Actually the Koreans are doing more interesting things. When I was considering the BMW grand coupe 4 series I tested the Kia Stinger. My conclusion at the time was the Lexus update couldn’t come soon enough. Well, I didn’t buy either in the end but both were streets ahead, and in the case of the Kia It was generations ahead, and even the warranty was better.

The rear middle seat seems like a divider between the 2 rear side seats. This means the rear middle passenger is sitting on a narrow raised hump. Doesn't look comfortable to me and coupled with the poor shoulder room of the existing model which looks like being carried over, its seems this IS is a 4 seater rather than a 5 seater.

The car's track has been widened by 45 mm at the front and 50mm at the rear, hence the better stance; less of the "underwheeled" look of the current model. They also made a strong claim that the chassis has been improved for greater communication and interaction between driver and road. Have to wait for the first road tests to find out if the claim is real.

In the video, there is mention of a new Toyota test track - Shimoyama Circuit - that will be used to hone the handling of future Toyota/Lexus cars.

https://www.motor1.com/news/346929/toyota-technical-center-shimayoma-opens/

Here is the video:

I think if they invested a little more money to change the dashboard and centre stack, then it could hoodwink some people to believe its a all new model. Oh why?
