It is not for the govt to give further benefits to them. Helping them find jobs is a benefit. Cannot find job? Repay the subsidy and go home. Repay how? These are graduates from a free/subsidized, bonded education. They wouldn't get free education if they could afford it so what makes it possible for them to repay bond, or even earn enough to stay? Government has only two choices.......forget the bond and let them go home, or find them A job to let them repay. On the other side, cannot say jobs should be for locals if then you want a bonded individual to take that job so they can repay a bond, which ordinarily they cannot afford. Under government comment, a company will also look to hire a citizen long before any of those on a bond so if the government wants its money back, at all, then it has a choice to make.

Now cannot find jobs easily, it is indeed a benefit. Local grads also cannot find jobs, can they ask for refund of school fees? Covid is also no fault of theirs. Imagine people study computer science but import truck loads of 'IT FTs' or Bio Chem or Precision Engineering, or.........<continue to import truck loads of the same kind of 'FTs'> Can ask to refund their lives? I don't think the bond limit these people the kind of jobs they can take up. From the looks of it, they're just picky high SES if that's indeed the case. If really want to preserve job for local, free them of their bond and ask them to go home. Otherwise, they will be competing with the local. They might be more competitive than local hor

Think it make a lot of sense to preserve jobs that the locals (have more commitment) are already in instead of freeing it for young talented foreigners who do not have as much bills to pay (and they can seek help from their own government while locals have no other government to go to). They can happily return to serve out their bond when things get better in a couple years. 🙂 Yes fair enough. So are the relevent authorities handling it swiftly and decisively? Why these foreigners complaining?😂

Since they were given tidy sums of money for tuition fee and allowance, they should also be bonded to do sai kang right, esp during times like this. Can't be taking the tax payers' money and expect to be bonded to do cushy jobs, right? To say that the govt should be responsible for them is bulls**t. The bond isn't supposed to be a perk. Imagine take our 200mil/yr, get bonded and govt got to be responsible for finding a job for them? And then there will be another round of people saying we spend 200 mil/yr sponsoring people to be security guards earning $1800. And we will kpkb the govt for wasting our money and knowing social media, some fury will be directed to the foreign students and not policy makers. 42 minutes ago, Fcw75 said: Every decent job given to them is one less for true Singaporeans. Ask them to F off or do those security guards, drivers, F&B jobs that govt always asked us to do. If these jobs are in excess, maybe but with retrenchment round the corner, there might be issues also. And I am not sure if they are allowed to take those jobs. For example, the G spent $100k to sponsor them only for them to take a job that pays $2k a month or $24k a year for let's say three years. The G would have spent $100k sponsoring someone who would only contribute $72k over a three year period. That would be poor ROI. So not sure if there are conditions. Otherwise some foreigners would gladly take the sponsorship and get the qualifications and the spend a few years having a stress free job and not really contribute to society (they reserve their contribution elsewhere through side jobs or something like that). 33 minutes ago, inlinesix said: Release them from Bond lo I agree. That would be best. I also want to add. If you dont release them from the bond and yet don't let them take a job, it sets a poor precedence where people can take advantage of. Imagine you sign a contract to work in a company. Then the company put you on no pay leave because there is a lull in business. You don't get paid. You cannot quit because you signed a contract and if you resigned, you breached the contract and must pay damages. And you cannot take another job because you are considered moonlighting and that is a termination offence which is also breach of contract. And the company refuses to release you from the contract. That is what I think is an implication if you dont release them from their bonds and yet make it difficult for them to serve their bonds. Because people are watching. And learning. Foreigners can run off. Citizens, not so much.
