KM SE told me pre order price is $122999. Delivery is Sep/Oct. So far, full details and specs still not available. ↡ Advertisement

I forsee the Octavia (which start at 123k) will be a close competitor with slightly more power and faster gb.

Next is we have to see what sort of equipment level does the car comes with. But yes, i reckon that the price tag of 120k for a C segment sedan is probably not going to appeal much drivers in Singapore (unless they are die hard fans of Honda). Weenemone Clutched July 13, 2021 Share July 13, 2021 (edited) $120k is pretty steep, you can get a 2L 163hp Mazda 6 with some change left... Edited July 13, 2021 by Weenemone

hansmith 2nd Gear July 13, 2021 Share July 13, 2021 (edited) @Weenemone If $120k, i will rather take a skoda octavia as someone said. Anyway, i just booked an avante cn7. So no new cars for me for awhile. Edited July 13, 2021 by hansmith

The price of this new civic really quite expensive, unless the equipment very good but the detuned engine is a let down.
Weenemone Clutched July 13, 2021 Share July 13, 2021 @hansmith Will take a look at that though I'll prefer to go Japanese for my first car... But only planning to buy in Q1'22 so only just started looking around. The 2022 Civic reviews from the US have been largely positive but looks like the local version is falling short on the engine option and pricing.... hansmith 2nd Gear July 13, 2021 Share July 13, 2021 (edited) @Weenemone For this compact sedan segment, the usual suspects in this price range (meaning $100k odd) to research are really only a few. So, I will recommend researching all the below and then forming your decision. Names updated with the latest model and year of introduction. Mazda 3 M-hybrid (2019) $90k+ VES A2 Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 (2020) $100k+ VES B Honda Civic 11th gen (2021) $120k+ ? VES B (should be released soon) (if it is really this price, i dont think it should still be in the $100k odd list cuz its price is reaching the Audi A3 1.5 sedan which is $130k+) Hyundai Avante CN7 (late 2020) $90k+ VES A2 Kia Cerato (2018) $85k VES B Mitsubishi Attrage 1.2 (2020) $78k VES A2 Edited July 13, 2021 by hansmith

Past experience says that US reviews can't really be translated to local Civics since ours is most likely a striped down model. My personal view is to just have an open mind and test drive all the different models. Koreans nowadays are on par with the Japs honestly, actually even surpassing them in terms of features and tech. CN7 a serious contender and not to be missed for its price and features.

Shouyi 3rd Gear July 14, 2021 Share July 14, 2021 (edited) @WeenemoneAnother point to consider is how VES banding affects the PARF rebate. For e.g if a owner decides to deregister his car after 9 years. Suppose the ARF paid is $20K. VES Band B: PARF rebate = 50% of $20k = $10K VES Band A2: PARF Rebate = 50% of ($20K-$15K) = $2.5K Edited July 14, 2021 by Shouyi
hansmith 2nd Gear July 14, 2021 Share July 14, 2021 @Shouyi I have heard this argument before. But, i dont think its something to consider. And, the argument does not make sense. ARF is a tax. If you have VES A2, you get $15k discount off ARF. So, upfront you already took $15k back. Why is it suddenly a negative point that i get back less later on via PARF rebate if i scrap the VES A2 car? Doesnt make sense. You are getting back less because you already took the $15k earlier. Someone should consider a VES B car instead of a VES A2 car because you can take back more PARF later on? No logic.

I guess it should be the buyer the dealer upfront took $15k 😄 99% of the time the 15k doesn't translate to 15k off the car. This scenario has always been debatable. ↡ Advertisement
