I have a Dell CPU installed with window 7. It has been with me for about 7 years.

As window 7 cannot be used anymore, is it worthwhile to install window 10.

Not sure how long more would the hard disk and the rest of the parts will last.

I think it's not difficult to answer. If you can tahan for so long means you are a light user. Just continue using until it kaputs. In the mean time look for a new alternative.

As desktops and laptops are slowly becoming dinosaurs you can start looking at "pads" such as ipads, Microsoft surface "pads", Android "Tabs" etc. Whatever that is moving in that direction.

It all depends on your budget. You can move on from your current dinosaur for newer tech. Dont waste time and resources upgrading it.

Not true

some laptops , it’s worthy to upgrade a little and it can stretch for another good 5-8 yrs

i used my t420 lappie for 12 yrs and then the power supply kaputted, then I threw. This was after a midway refresh of SSD and Ram boost

Old pc running on win7 and easily run on win10.

The problem is money, need to pay for it. [:p]

If your pc hardware can work with SSD, go for it. It's an instant boost. No need those gigabyte storage, just a cheap small one to install your win10 in and give you fast boot and access. Your old hardisk can continue to function as storage

I will buy a new thinkpad (X, T series only) and use for next 7-8 years.

Thinkpad easy to repair (detailed disassembly PDF available officially) and original parts plentiful over ebay.

The current gen ones with AMD processors are really a steal, about 40% cheaper than Intel based.

If you instsall W10 now, you gonna crash it.

Give it some upgrades, if you deem worthwhile and then you shd be gd to go

Install Windows 7 can run for 7 years.

install windows 10, confirm can run for 10 years.

i’ll buy a laptop with AMD Ryzen processor, SSD, 16GB ram. I think it can last 10 years.

I just prefer AMD over Intel, from the time I started to build my own PCs with parts from SLS since 1997.

nowadays I just use my work laptop. Big fan of Thinkpads. So sturdy and well built.

What's the CPU? Dual Core?

You can slap an entry level GFX and turn it into a HTPC.
