Don't forget the FOB price which Borneo is getting for all of its cars also had to go through an additional layer which is the regional HQ, Toyota Motor Asia Pac located at 20 Anson Road.

We never know what kind of pricing vs volume negotiations goes thru behind these closed doors, but for sure, with this layer of costs and control, Borneo can't react to bring in new models fast enough or having their prices close to PI. To be fair to Borneo, they did bring in the turboed Harrier as their official model which is one step faster while PIs are still selling NA Harrier.

They learnt a hard lesson with Toyota Wish, getting slaughtered when PIs sold Wish like hot cakes eons ago.

And Japanese being conservative, slow business processes through the official channels are the norms. By the time KM brought in HR-V, PIs had already shifted boats of Vezels 😁

Officially, all Toyota is imported by TMAP.  Being factory, TMAP can declare whatever OMV.  Subsequently, sold to BM.

Whatever BM want, Jap may not agree to import.

The only reason Harrier Turbo is sold here is Singapore + Malaysia.  Malaysia had a 12mths waiting list.

Interesting to know, considering they are 2 different distributors (Borneo under Inchcape & UMW Toyota). I guess if collectively there is enough volume, TMAP is able to present a business case for its distributors and ask for it officially from TMC.

5 years warranty also ok. Toyota hybrid technology has been around for the longest? should have standard one. Most Hybrid lasting more than 10 years all ok. It is just like you go buy fridge, you can choose to have top up warranty. one extra year 50 bucks more, three extra year 99 bucks more. The retailer more than happy that you pay more for warranty for they know that their product is good and most will last.

Toyota hybrid batteries sold by Borneo used to be 10yr warranty so now 5yrs only seems to be a cost saving measure for Borneo. I read some earlier generation Prius batteries had to be changed at yr 6-7, couldn't last full 10yrs. I’m not sure what’s the lifespan now though.

Nissan Kicks and Kia Niro both have 10 year warranty on battery... But Totoya YC only 5 years, maybe they know their brand name very strong people wont mind ah? My SE say can top up with $$$ for 10 year warranty but pricing not out yet for that...

If competitors have 10yrs warranty on their hybrid batteries then this is definitely a factor to consider before buying a Toyota hybrid.

Strong brand name or not, it will affect resale value as if I’m a buyer of a used hybrid car, why would I want to buy a Toyota with only a 5yr warranty vs Nissan or Kia with 10yrs?

All this warranty is just marketing talk. Warranty is usually in those T&C with xx years/ yy km.

If you clock high mileage, the warranty after xx years is useless cause everything will be wear and tear. Might as well pay lesser upfront and take the savings go fix outside, Toyota is a well known brand and most workshops can fix

The warranty we are currently discussing is battery warranty... If top up cost for +5 warranty is much cheaper than battery replacement cost, may be worth a consideration!

U sure or not? I just asked yesterday and the SE told me price is $96888 till Tuesday cos Wednesday is COE bidding so price revision, if any will only be known after COE results are out.

Price though is effectively more ex as PARF will be less by $2.5k compared to Dec registration and accordingly BM margin is now more by $5k. Also the Samsung gifts not applicable anymore.

As I’ve posted before, margins are now back to normal so whether to buy this car or not depends on the individual. It is still cheaper than Kah’s long in the tooth petrol HRV, its most direct competitor. Don’t think there is a direct hybrid Crossover competitor though unless u include PI Vezels.

Haha that was a long time back when COE was very much more swee... Vios E now is $85k le... I'm in the Vios WA chat now, almost all the owners have the older models so your observation is probably right... Attrage will always see alot cause it's ~10k cheaper!
