Smoking may spread coronavirus easily, make symptoms worse: Tokyo doctor

TOKYO -- As the novel coronavirus outbreak continues to surge across the globe, the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged people not to smoke because it increases the risk of developing heavy symptoms in the event of infection.

The Tokyo Medical Association and the Japan Society for Tobacco Control have also made similar calls. The latter group is also asking companies and building managers to close their dedicated spaces for smokers.

But why is it necessary for people to stop smoking as part of efforts to prevent both the spread of the virus to others and to reduce their own risk of heavy symptoms? The Mainichi Shimbun spoke to Dr. Tetsuro Ishizawa, a Japan Society for Tobacco Control-approved doctor and the head of Workers Clinic Ginza in the capital's Chuo Ward, which offers online treatment to quit smoking.

A recent modeling by Fauci and team gave a best case estimate of 100,000 to 200,000 deaths from the coronavirus. Worse case scenario is 1.6m to 2.2m.

Compare and contrast this with 400,000 American soldier deaths in WW2, where they were facing luffwafe, panzer, machine guns and constant shelling.

This virus is deadly. I don't understand why the Americans, Brits and some politicians over the world treat this like a seasonal flu.

They no brain one.

According to WHO:

“It took 67 days from the first reported case to reach 100,000 cases,

11 days for second 100,000 cases, and

just 4 days for the third 100,000 cases.”

And now, the Coronavirus outbreaks are spreading like a wild fire in USA.  On 26 Mar 2020 @ GMT 15:20,  74,982 cases were reported in US,  the number of cases jumped to 188,578 on 1 Apr 2020 @ GMT 04:30  In just 5 days, more than 110, 000 cases reported in USA alone.

The situation in Italy, Spain and Germany, as well as many parts of Europe are also not improving. Germany has lower mortality rate  of 1.08%,  despite having high numbers of confirmed cases.
