Hi all, I need some expert advice on course of action :

Has Daimler quality dropped or C&C standard deteriorated ?

I collected my new E200 end of Sep 2019. By Jan 2020 before CNY, noise can be heard from under carriage. Wanted to fix appointment with C&C to check but somehow it has completely broken down and needed to be towed. Service advisor then called and said something wear out in the engine and they have to wait for Daimler to send a new engine, 2 months waiting time. What is this ? a 3.5 months car, not 3.5 years, you are telling me the heart of the car wear out ? Everyone didn’t seem to be able to give me a proper answer, and when I asked for C&C GM’s email, the receptionist promised to call me back, and for days it didn’t happen. What’s wrong with C&C ? This is your after-sale service standard ?

For those who are shopping around for luxury cars, I think this is a lousy experience I could share. Who is happy to have a new car for 3.5 months and then need at least 2 months to replace the whole engine ? Asked me to sign LTA form for engine replacement, won't that affect my future resale value ? Why can’t they just give me a brand new replacement !

Daimler as a principal will not give you a new replacement, they will fix what is broken under warranty terms. Neither would  C&C give you a new replacement because they will act according to what is given by the principal. Moreover, to give you a new replacement,  they will have to bid for COE, pay ARF, registration fees,  excise tax etc, it will be too costly that they will not do it.

They are unable to give you a new car under your current COE because LTA won't allow so.

The only way out is to get them to speed up the engine replacement,  2 months sounds too long.

This only favours first time buyers or those who do not have an existing car to sell/trade-in.

Low COE translates to poor resale value for your existing car.

Different  people have different situation, the job of those who are in the medical profession will be more secured than ever. There are some who have saved enough  and have been waiting for a good time to buy a new car, now is the best time. Of course if one has not enough saving, whether now or other time,  one should think harder before buying a car. I have been thinking for 15 years 😅😅😅

Some people will say u can die from covid-19...
Never end one lah. Don't need to look forward with fear tinted eyes. But do understand the risks going forward.

Cars are discretionary spending. As long as u are well aware of that, how u want to spend your money is your business. Whether u want to buy a badge, performance vehicle or buy the bare basic A->B car...

Best is full cash [:p] Or like you ... 2 x COE workhorses [laugh]

Not everyone is the same. Some do not need to take loan to make the purchase.

Service advisor can only say wear out in the engine, just couldn't tell what exactly wear out. They said they can only send the whole engine back to Daimler to wait for their report.

Did they provide you with a replacement car for the time being?

If they do, then not too bad lah..just wait for new engine replacement.

This is generally how the industry works, whatever not working just replace that part. I have not heard of anyone successful in claiming 1-to-1 replacement for another new car.

If one has a GENUINE problem, truely a problem that is inherent with the relatively "new" car and not caused by user-end handling, then its actually quite simple to get attention nowadays.. go to FB, Insta, forums, all forms of social media and spam everything and everyone.. keep whining and bitc*ing until you get whats yours. their margin is 100k per car. they lose 1-2 customer because of u also not worth it. simple math.

i once bought a swiss watch in italy, brought it home and found it faulty and then made the AD in HK where i worked then replace it 1-1. it was a so called rare watch with a 1 year waitlist. i only waited for shipping which took 2 weeks. new serial and everything. everyone said it was impossible, that they didn't do that, but i've a new watch and a letter from their HQ that says it happened. even the HK AD said it was the first time they saw something like that happen.

the secret is to just make enough noise.
