The 720s was not even close bro. This is an obliteration (up to 1 mile). I think it will take something very special to beat that 911 Turbo S. The 765LT would be close i guess.

Actually, the 720s was close and catching up as proven by the rolling race, which it won quite easily. Would've taken more than a 1/4 mile but I think definitely less than a mile to turn the tables. Probably McLaren would've caught up by half mile on an Autobahn straight or banked track, and obliterated the Porsche before the mile mark.

😁

Also, quarter mile times can vary quite a bit depending on conditions, driver etc. Stock 720s have been clocked at just sub 10s in proper events at proper surfaces, which is just insane. I'm not saying it's faster than the new turbo S from a standing start, but it could've been a lot closer. And it would've caught up after a quarter mile and overtaken.

Many, many nits to pick with that article.

Anyway, it's all pretty subjective. Your mileage may vary.

I know Hypercar is a more recent thing but my retrospective view is Porsche 959 as the 1st Hypercar. Anyway, its all matter of perspective and I think what cars one grew up with. Some old bugger might tell me Bentley Blower is first Hypercar.

1st hypercar has to be Mclaren F1

Problem is that you can't say so and so was a hypercar before the term was in currency. That seems to be one of the loosely accepted rules.

So, sure, you can call them hypercars based on the fact that they perform a tier above the supercars of their era. But just imagine if 5 years from now, when the HP wars heat up, they start referring to 2000+hp cars as "Ultracars"? You can refer to a model year 2025 2000 hp sports car as an Ultracar, but does that mean you can refer to a 2021 Lotus Evija as an Ultracar, before the term was even coined?

(The real irony is someone will webcrawl this and I would've unwittingly coined the moniker "Ultracar". 😂😂😂)
