Facebook Removes Accounts With AI-Generated Profile Photos

Facebook on Friday removed what it called a global network of more than 900 accounts, pages, and groups from its platform and Instagram that allegedly used deceptive practices to push pro-Trump narratives to about 55 million users.

The network used fake accounts, artificial amplification, and, notably, profile photos of fake faces generated using artificial intelligence to spread polarizing, predominantly right-wing content around the web, including on Twitter and YouTube.

Facebook’s investigation connected The BL to The Epoch Times, a conservative media organization with ties to Chinese spiritual group Falun Gong and a history of aggressive support for Donald Trump.

Ostensibly a US-based media organization, The BL network’s pages were operated by users in Vietnam and the US, who Facebook says made widespread use of fake accounts to evade detection and funnel traffic to its own websites.

It represents an alarming new development in the information wars, as it appears to be the first large-scale deployment of AI-generated images in a social network.

Waste ? Are you kidding? You will be surprised how porn industry is leading the innovative technology behind Deep Fakes...like it had during the early days of pay-to-watch streaming services...long before Netflix and YouTube exist.

After all, AI, like the Internet, is just another tool which can be used to amuse or for abuse.

That said, I am sure most MCFer are "intelligent" enuf to make their own judgment when comes to dealing with clones or fake news...HA! 🤣

I thought some advocates freedom of speech? So when do one differential between falsehood and freedom since the advocator is the source of falsehood. Very confusing, best is to just read and listen but not to take them serious.

i suppose some legal education is required. 

1. an accusation is alleged

2. there is no evidence

3. the allegation is not supported and court throws out the case

4. a counter claim is made against the allegation to be defaming in nature due to no supporting evidence

5. court rules there is defaming quality to the allegation and the plaintiff has suffered loss as a result (loss in standing is valid)

6. court rules advocate of the falsehood pay for costs and losses. 

no freedom of speech has been curtailed in the above.

between countries there is no "court" but those of public opinion.. and people, despite my belief in their ability to think, have made me changed my mind about that.

PS: i also want to bring up the case of nkf and tt durai. we all know how that went.

I am not sure if we are on the same page. I am referring to Falun Gong which to some is freedom of belief. For me it is a cult and should be stopped. But coming for a land that supports cults and falsify other information, I am not sure which is which.

oh.. i thought you were talking about POFMA.. in that case 

1. a 1 man religion is a nut case

2. a group of people believing in a religion is a cult

3. a very large group of people believing in a religion makes it mainstream

in the us, freedom of religion is in their constitution, so feel free to invent a religion there. as for falsifying other information, that never stopped them.
