to be fair, cvt gives you a smooth flawless drive aka lifeless while the old school auto gearboxes give you more driving feel. personally i will prefer to have the feel of driving rather than a lifeless and soul-less car.

i find this theory funny. to me driving  normal auto and cvt auto both is same lifeless.

start car shit to 'D' step oil , thats it. i drive both by the way .

want to have feel? drive real manual. ( i drive manual too./ lorry....... 😂)

I will want to get manual car, 2 main problem, many car model already produce manual gear. Not just the AD don't bring it.

2nd problem for me, wife licence is 3A.  That's I will never have chance to buy a manual car.

Only time I drive manual now is rental car in Germany. Again will depend on car model. My last trip there rental car was BMW X3 an ut only auto. Previously get a VW sill got manual.

I guess in SG got two gang of driver:

1. Petrol very expensive so happy to have a more sian drive to save money
2. Spend so much money on car already might as well enjoy the ride, who cares about burning petrol =D

For car owners under group 1, OYK would like to invite you to seriously consider changing to EV if you must drive. The green technology is supposed to help you save even more on fuel cost.  [laugh]

Honestly, the drive in the lorry we have here is crap.

Want to drive? At least get a pickup that has better drive than crappy lorry

I swore away from manual after getting stuck in a jb-sg causeway jam for 4 hours.

Listed the car for sale on sgcarmart right after we reached home in sg.

Yah [laugh] it's a bitch to go thru the causeway jam on a manual car. It's best for highway driving where one's foot is resting most of the time. The best car type to be stuck in a jam might be an EV. No idling engine, no exhaust fumes.

I feel quite used to the rumble of the petrol engine... Even hybrid is too eeriely quiet liao, EV really takes all the fun away from the drive liao I don't think I can get used to it...

cvt has a 10% power loss. Also I think a slight delay if suddenly hard accelerate.

so you think DCT and automatic have no power loss  with 100% efficiency? fat hope! btw 10% loss where you get this figure from?

If you change gear from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th and so no, Dual Clutch and Automatic will have delay either if you hard accelerate. The delay in CVT is more or less due to software programmable to reduce slippage under high torque from engine

no, I'm implying efficiency is better in the two aforementioned gb.

I am driving the Forester XT.

On paper 0 - 100km/h is 7.5sec. On actual many oversea test show it is around 8sec. Definitely agreed. The CVT always felt laggy. I am always driving in S mode (I, S & S#).

If the FXT is equipped with the ZF 8 speeder like the BMW, it will be easily below 7sec. Just look at the number for X3 3.0Xdrive.

Doesnt make any sense talking 0-100km/h again. Are you testing under the same test conditions as specified by the manufacturers? Mixing japan engine with conti gearbox, sound more like a conti brand salesman.

A lot cars manufacturers have on purpose slowed CVT down by having fake shifting programmed/tuned in exchange for more driving pleasure and a sense of acceleration and fuel economy. But this is not the real CVT.

In _theory_, a 100% efficient DSG vs a 100% efficient auto vs a 100% efficient CVT, the CVT should win because it can stay at max power while the other 2 need to suffer the rest of the power curve.

Back in the days when CVT was first mooted, I thought it would be like autos, at first slower but get faster and faster thru refinement and tech improvements till  it beats manual. But I think with electrics coming, maybe its a dead end.

If your "the electrics coming will lead to a dead end" scenario is true, then it would not be only applicable to CVT but the whole petrol car industry and all other petrol engines related gearbox including DCT, AT and manual all dead.

Many old bird here know what I am driving. Not because I driving a CVT car then I must always said it is very good.

Yes, the FXT CVT is one of the best among CVT. But compared to a ZF 8 speeder, is different story. I don't owned any BMW now. Just drive a rental one in Germany 2 yrs ago.

There is nothing wrong for a Japanese car to use a conti GB or the other way.

Like Volvo is using 8 speeder from Aisin.

may be get slower if with ZF8, due to ZF8 higher weight vs CVT.. I guess.. hee hee.

Repeat the same fake "joke" over and over again. Yawn

The reason why you failed to overtake were either because your car had a much smaller engine capacity and hence less power and torque, your driving skill, or type of vehicle may be your car is much heavier than the one you are trying to overtake, etc. All these had nothing to do with the CVT

Sorry. It is probably fake news too that Toyota and Lexus loses it most reliable crown to Mazda for its CVT problems.
