Do u guys even know how many roads were closed.

I'm familiar with the NDP road closures.
NDP closes Nicoll Highway and republic boulevard and the area around padang only.

 

This road closures extend further out into the arterial roads that access CBD compared to NDP and F1. This SCSM closed part of the ECP access roads, west coast highway. Keppel Road, Anson/Cecil and the other roads that NDP usually closes.

On a saturday night, with U2 having a concert at Sports Hub?

Be warned. Their 2020 promo video is out. Next year the dates are set on 5th and 6th. December. It's a Saturday and Sunday. So going to be a evening race again.

If I'm the business owners in Marina and CBD area, i will petition govt to stop this nonsense for something that is not a national priority and during the important xmas shopping period. They already have to put up with NDP and F1 .

That nite was unfortunate to have 4 other big events concurrently, and each of the them have their logistic needs.  But Standchart has always been on the the 1st weekend of Dec. 2 of the events should have planned for other dates. U2 can't be changed though, coz they are big star, and allocated only one nite and unfortunately its clashes with SCSM.

Imagine if u bought a U2 ticket and for some reason, had to take cab/drive down to the venue... 

During NDP rehearsals with only limited road closures, sundown marathon is usually held then and at F1 pit building with no road closures of it's own, and it already caused a significant jam around marina area.

I know how many roads were closed on that evening.  I told my wife to stay at home.

The start off started only after 6pm and I think mine turn  started at 6.40 pm ... was beginning to get dark too; With the  amount of floodlighting available this days ; all is possible; anyways they will always focus on elite atheletes usually more and they also finish in the dark at 8pm plus (so if they start in the dark at 4-5am they then finish in the bright day at 7-8am... LOL works both ways 😁too...... anyways let the Org decide.... I just go in for fun

Singapore will always scored badly on the cost and weather such humidity and low temperatures. None of the marathons located nearer to the equator would ever be in the top 10 of that list.

Let the Stakeholders n Govt depts concerned get around and see what happens; If Sg wants to be attract itself as  "centre" for any world events we have to bear the brunt/inconveniences; no choice;  As I mentioned in earlier posts ..... all those Road Marshalls have to be very well trained in advising motorists stuck and wanting to go in a certain direction and this marshalls are not ready with solutions but rather just  "shoo" you away  , so my grouse is rather with them and their heads rather ; even a simple A4 paper plan for stuck motorists (even though apps are there) as I was going round and round around the city fringe and finally just got down and walked over 2km to the venue site; can't expect that to happen to hotel wedding guests of course or people whom want to go to major buildings  ; and more and more cars were piling up and adding to the traffic

For the start at 5am, there is no light at all till 6:30am.  nothing to be shown on TV till then.  The worse thing is that No Singapore skyline at that hour.

For 5am start, it will be 10pm in Europe.  

On the other hand, 6pm start will have natural light till 7:30pm.  From thereon, TV broadcast will use street light.

For 6pm start, it will be 11am in Europe.

Like i said, easier said than done. This is not Australia or USA, where 99.9% of all adults hold a driving licence and especially in rural areas, the roads are very recognisable to all. (Their version of simple road directions is a 6-7 step process. If u ask for directions in USA, that's what they give you. They just instantly rattle off turn on this road, turn on the next road 6-7 steps in a row)

In singapore, it's not crucial to know road names. U tell people that Anson, Keppel Highway, Republic Boulevard is closed. I'm probably in the few percentile of drivers who can even comprehend what that means in a 2D perspective of the entire CBD. The road marshals themselves don't even know what's happening 1 km away. 

A diagram would help. But instantly people will ask you, so how to get to this place. And though i don't want to stereotype, the people manning such positions, are almost 100% not drivers themselves. And would i really care what's happening 1km down the road? If I'm employed to do this, certainly i won't.

Road marshaling only works if you are asking people to avoid a certain area like say F1 and NDP which is a boxed area and easily to direct away. Just away from this area. More complex marshaling is unlikely to work cos such information is not customised to the individual needs of every driver.

In previous years, i took MRT to the city and walked to the start point.

Told my wife to take my stuff and meet me at City Hall MRT

Singapore is a small island lah. U can say there's a choice of not driving on the PIE.
But u try closing the PIE and see if half of singapore won't develop traffic jams?

When u bottle neck/stop at least 3 main arterial roads heading (West coast highway/Keppel/Nicoll/Part of ECP and republic boulevard) into the CBD on a weekend night... 

If there was a fire/RTA requiring SCDF access in CBD that day?

Lets say we double it to 102,000 runners.

To cater to these 100k runners / participants, how many others were inconvenient ? 

From an environmental perspective, how much petrol/diesel were wasted  due to traffic jam?

Anyways this year the pretzels was a unique idea I must say.... though did not like them very much but eazy to eat on the go.....dont know if they have good energy though     

          But one thing I must admit the Cisco or guards manning the closures.... had no knowledge or info ( absolutely dumb founded - no proper training provided by the Organiser I blame solely )  for the stranded drivers how to get around as the roads just kept going in a loop to nowhere; I was kind of pissed off by them as people were trying to exit the city but just kept going round and round ( I was stuck near MBF /Robinson Road/Central Boulevard Area  and wanted to get to Rochore/ Beach Road) I can quite imagine the exasperation of the other drivers..... as for me I just got off at Tong Eng and hiked 2km warm up to F1 pit)
