What can usa do? Stop supplying TSMC too? Taiwan does a lot of business with China much more than with USA. Taiwan is also a lot closer to China. China have not flex their muscle yet. I was under the impression tsmc is not under USA jurisdiction. I think getting a USA company to comply is different vs getting a Taiwanese company to comply. whatever USA threaten Taiwan with, China can do the same, if not more. Don't think TSMC has a choice. They are really screwed, this after announcing a new USD12b investment in Arizona. Without TSMC, Huawei's phones will need to run on their own chips, how behind are they? interesting views, he thinks the Chinese will buy Apple instead? The market don't seems to agree. Conclusion: we will only support free trade if it benefits America.

Conclusion: we will only support free trade if it benefits America. This is a strategic move. It is to protect vital national defense interest. Look at F16V sold to TW. It has network capability similar to F35. Huawei choice is limited to China wafer fab, which is less advance as well as lower yield. It is to TSMC disadvantage if it does not adhere to the directive. Samsung will replace TSMC then.

But China also can do a lot. Actually tsmc is pretty dominant in silicon tech at this point. Will USA deny us companies making in tsmc? That is screwing up us companies. if u look at it from China point of view, they view Taiwan as a part of China. If tsmc actually deny support to Huawei... China might actually do military action. It’s like asking st not to deliver masks to Singapore. tsmc is screwed actually... by politics Edited May 17, 2020 by Wind30

Revenue: China: 20% USA: 59% how many of the 59% can survive without TSMC? I know a LOT of USA companies are dependent on TSMC... and cannot switch fabs. This is not buying screws where there are 10 suppliers. Let's see how it plays out. I have a few taiwanese engineers and from my conversation with them, a significant portion support good relationship with Mainland. Asking TSMC not to produce for Huawei is a VERY BIG thing. Previously, its just not letting Huawei sell to USA companies, or USA suppliers not giving Huawei stuff. Now, without TSMC, huawei can't even make products for their own domestic market. China being factory of the world is the world biggest importer of IC. It exports a lot of these IC after being manufactured into final products. Words of this ban has been floating in TW media for some mths. TSMC likely prepared for this.
