Actually I do like fastbacks and estates/wagons a lot cos they are practical. I do find large sedans very "unker". I do know of some guys who can only accept sedans.

Not many car makers make fastbacks. Nicely designed fastbacks I find are Audi and Skoda. Those from BMW looks awkward.

What about Opel insignia grandsport? Also a fastback, albeit smaller boot then skoda

Already a stretch for most people to get a skoda. Opel has an even worse reputation.

Never seen any Race Blue unit in singapore before.

Opel was a very underated car back then when with General Motors. The previous Insignia was basically a Saab 95 which was over engineered. Now that Opel is teaming up with Peugeot, not sure how it is like now.

At least skoda use vw proven tech which is much more reliable and share same service centre with vw. Parts will also be cheaper and readily available after warranty over

Actually, most buy the model that is typically problem free and ride out the changes.

As in the case of the of the Golf TCR, Golf clubsports or even the yet to be release MK8 Gti, you be able to do a mid level refresh on the existing ride from 2013 - 2014 and its across the multiple platform.

So if you get a VRS, u can in fact buy a IS38 from the Golf R range turbo to do a upgrade. " Carefully  " of course.

Skoda Octavia Deliveries Halted Over Software Problem, Follows VW Golf

skoda_octavia_iv_combi_37.jpg

To say the Volkswagen Golf and Skoda Octavia are important cars for the German conglomerate would be a huge understatement. They’re racking up hundreds of thousands of sales every year across the world, so even the slightest problem with these compact cars has major repercussions on VAG’s sales. The automotive giant is being hit hard these days by software issues, first prompting the core VW brand to halt sales of the Golf and now its Czech arm is doing the same with its sister model, the Octavia.

The culprit? It seems there is an issue with the online connectivity component shared by the two MQB Evo-based cars, specifically the emergency call function. A spokesperson from Skoda told Automotive News Europe’s sister site Automobilwoche the company is “taking the same measures as the Volkswagen brand.” Unsurprisingly, the German publication has learned that Audi and SEAT are also investigating whether there are similar software issues with their A3 and Leon, respectively.

Speaking with Der Spiegel, a VW representative said the problem that forced the company to stop deliveries of its best-selling car was identified during a quality assurance check. It’s too soon to know how many vehicles are affected, but they’re working on a software update expected to come out in the June 15-21 week.

It’s worth mentioning these software problems are not interfering with Golf production as VW is still assembling the hatchback without any interruptions. These cars will get the new software once it’ll be ready and after that, they’ll be shipped to their rightful owners. Problematic software pushed back the rollout of the Mk8 in the first place as the company had trouble tweaking some of the new features, including the over-the-air update functionality.

These unexpected obstacles corroborated with the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic will take their toll on the VW’s finances this year just as the company was beginning to recover from the pricey Dieselgate aftermath.

Mine doesn't come with this online connectivity for emergency call

Easier and cheaper option is use your hp to dial 999

But i heard the emergency call is tie to the vehicle where if it overturn or detect an airbag deployed, it activate a call to the emergencies services.

OTA update is a new option but even on existing ride, the OTA option for local is non existent.

Theres a prob with vag wagon. The superb estate and passat estate also failed

its never a good idea to shift weights in a corner and hence the saying, slow in fast out. Fast in you don't come out.

But really, in a straight line and you avoid an object like a moose test, you can hardly blame someone for driving recklessly.

Worst if it's on a rainy day.

Somehow I find the Scout variant the best looking among all Škoda combi (estate model). [thumbsup]

The new generation of the Škoda Octavia includes a new Octavia Scout. The success story of this Combi variant - featuring rugged details, off-road flair, increased ground clearance and all-wheel drive - began in 2007 and the model is set to write the next chapter, now that the brand's bestseller is in its fourth generation. In addition to its emotive design, the multifunctional lifestyle estate offers even more space than its predecessor and is now also available with front-wheel drive as an option.

Whether it be a family holiday, the big weekly shop or a trip to the country with a mountain bike in the boot: the new Škoda Octavia Scout, available exclusively as an estate, is the perfect vehicle for many occasions. Featuring the Rough-Road package as standard, including underbody protection and 15 mm more ground clearance, the Škoda Octavia Scout is ideally suited to off-road driving too and is a popular choice for towing a caravan, horse box or boat trailer. When fitted with a 2.0 TDI engine producing 147 kW (200 PS), it can even pull a braked trailer weighing up to 2,000 kg.

An Octavia for any occasion boasting plenty of space

Like its Octavia siblings, the Scout - which at 4,703 mm and 1,829 mm is now 16 mm longer and 15 mm wider respectively - offers an even more generous amount of space than its predecessor. The largest boot capacity in the segment to date has increased by a further 30 l to 640 l. The Scout can be ordered with innovative full LED Matrix headlights, which are making their Octavia debut and allow drivers to have the high beam on at all times.

Efficient TDI and TSI engines and, for the first time, front-wheel drive

A new, EVO-generation 2.0 TDI with a power output of 147 kW (200 PS) and 400 Nm of torque is celebrating its premiere in the Škoda Octavia Scout - it is the most powerful diesel in the history of the model range to date. What's more, in addition to four-wheel drive, Škoda is now also offering its lifestyle estate with front-wheel drive. Customers can now opt for a 2.0 TDI with an output of 85 kW (115 PS), a 1.5 TSI delivering 110 kW (150 PS) - both of which are equipped with a manual 6-speed transmission - or an e-TEC version of the 1.5 TSI featuring a 7-speed DSG and mild hybrid technology. Alternatively, there is also the choice of one of the two range-topping engines - a 2.0 TSI producing 140 kW (190 PS) and a 2.0 TDI delivering 147 kW (200 PS) - or the 2.0 TDI offering 110 kW (150 PS), all of which come with all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG as standard.

Rugged appearance with Scout-typical details

Distinct front and rear bumpers, each with aluminium-look underbody protection, and additional black plastic trims on the wheel arches, side sills and at the bottom of the doors protect the Škoda Octavia Scout's body and provide it with a distinct appearance. This is rounded off by the standard 18-inch silver-coloured Braga alloy wheels or the optionally available 19-inch Manaslu alloys. The front and rear diffusers, roof rails and window frames come in a silver finish, as do the housings of the electrically adjustable, folding and heated wing mirrors that include an automatic dimming function. The Škoda Octavia Scout is equipped with LED fog lights as standard and bears exclusive Scout badges on its front wings.

A Scout feel in the redesigned interior

The Škoda Octavia's new interior concept provides a new sense of spaciousness and improved ease of operation in the Scout variant too. The redesigned dashboard is modular and arranged in different levels, featuring a large, free-standing central display measuring up to 10 inches. The centre console is adorned with chrome detailing, which can also be found on the new door trims and handles. Scout-specific decorative trims on the dashboard as well as ThermoFlux seats and Scout logos on the front seats provide special visual touches in the interior. The Škoda Octavia Scout's pedals feature an aluminium finish, whilst its upholstery, steering wheel, armrests and dashboard all come with contrasting Tabor Brown stitching.

Exactly four months after introducing the Octavia RS iV plug-in hybrid, Skoda is now unveiling the conventionally powered versions. Naturally, the gasoline and diesel derivatives look virtually the same as the electrified model, with the obvious removal of “iV” badging and the cap for the charging port on the front fender.

Essentially mirroring the Volkswagen Golf GTI and GTD, the Octavia RS in non-iV form can be had with a 2.0-liter TSI engine with 245 horsepower and 370 Newton-meters of torque. Available exclusively in front-wheel-drive form, the gasoline-fueled version can be had with a choice between a six-speed manual and an optional seven-speed DSG. In terms of performance, the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes 6.7 seconds en route to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

If you’d rather get the diesel, the 2.0 TDI packs 200 hp (147 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft), thus making it the most powerful TDI-fueled Octavia ever built. It comes as standard with a FWD layout, but customers can spend extra on an AWD setup that enables a sprint in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 151 mph (243 km/h). Bear in mind you can’t get the diesel with three pedals as Skoda will sell the Octavia RS TDI exclusively with the DSG.

All flavors of the RS come with progressive steering and a sport suspension boasting a multi-link rear setup, with the gasoline and diesel models featuring a -15 millimeter (-0.6 inches) ride height. At an additional cost, an optional electronically adaptable suspension (Dynamic Chassis Control) will be available. In the case of the TSI variant, a limited-slip differential comes with a wet multi-plate clutch.

Sitting at the top of the food chain, the RS models come generously equipped with the digital instrument cluster and the larger version of the infotainment system. In addition, they also get a standard center airbag (a first for Skoda), specific 18- and 19-inch wheels, exclusive LED fog lights, and black exterior accents.

The more aggressive bumpers, dual exhaust tips, and the rear spoiler are also an RS-only affair, along with Alcantara surfaces and faux carbon fiber accents on the inside where the body-hugging seats that can be upgraded to include a massaging function. The driver’s display and the infotainment each come with RS-specific graphics to further separate the performance versions from their lesser siblings.
