This concept was shown early part of last month, and there is only 1 reason I did not post it till date: Its ugly nose job, which I hope it is an one off design effort, BUT...

BMW Concept 4: Chris Bangle Come Back, All Is Forgiven

BMW has previewed the design of the forthcoming M3 and M4 with the launch of the BMW Concept 4 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It shows that the new 4-Series will be a radical departure from its predecessor and have a face dominated by a kidney grille so big it could swallow two children. If only Chris Bangle (who, at the time, got his fair share of flak) was still designing Bimmers…

The German car manufacturer’s press release appropriately starts out by discussing that grille. According to BMW, “the vertically oriented grille fits seamlessly into both the proportions of the front end and BMW’s illustrious past” and it evokes classics such as the 328 and 3.0 CSi.

“The kidney grille has always been a signature feature of BMW cars,” added head of BMW Design Domagoj Dukec. “The BMW Concept 4 presents a confident and classy take on this iconic feature. At the same time, the BMW Concept 4 offers a look ahead to the expressive face of the 4 Series range.”

Looking past the vertical kidney grille are slim and aggressive laser headlights as well as huge air intakes to gulp down air. The Concept 4 also features particularly expressive sides and slim, two-section mirrors that are partly finished in polished aluminium, as well as 21-inch wheels with a five-spoke pattern.

As controversial as the design of the front may be, we suspect people will be more accommodating for the rear fascia. The most noteworthy feature out back are the flowing LED taillights, an angular bumper with a gloss black diffuser and large, rectangular-shaped chrome tailpipes.

Back in September at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW shocked its fans by unveiling a car whose front end was not only uncharacteristic for the brand, but also the exact opposite of understated.

It was called the Concept 4, and its kidney grille was considerably larger than even that of the latest 7-Series facelift or the X7. Now, it looks quite likely that this new and gigantic grille will make its way onto the 2020 M3, and probably the M4 too.

This latest G80 M3 image comes from the same source that spotted the car’s undisguised rear end a few days ago, and went on to post all the images on Bimmerpost.

So while a fake is never out of the question until the very unveiling of a car (or at least a leaked release), this image of the front end seems legit to us, especially since it matches not only the Concept 4’s design philosophy, but also that scoop we brought you earlier this month, where a fully camouflaged G80 M3 was trying really hard to hide its tall nose.

Now, since the grille is completely different and more pronounced, the headlight design is different too – sharper, similar to the Concept 4’s.

The good thing about a brand new M3 coming out is the performance. While it likely won’t put the same smile on your face as the iconic E46 M3, the all-new 2020 model will surely be the best overall iteration of the nameplate, which means it will also be the fastest.

Power will reportedly come from the same 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder unit found in the X3 M and X4 M crossovers. According to BMW M boss Markus Flasch, the base M3 will put down 473 HP (480 PS), while the Competition model will manage 503 HP (510 PS).

The G80 M3 is expected to make its public debut in mid-2020.

Disproportionate grille if u ask me. Don't see why they need such an ugly front even if its for better intake of cool air which I don't believe is the reason anyway.

the trend now is getting bigger grill, see lexus, audi, merc, mazda, jaguar

bmw is not helped by its kidney grills; get too wide, looks like pig snout or kia (z4). too tall, looks like buck toothed (x7)

the grill in 3er and 8er is just about the right size now

We spied the cabin of the upcoming all-new 4 Series.

The all-new BMW 4 Series is going to be divisive when it goes on sale next year. Spy shots and a recently leaked photo from the production line have shown the coupe will adopt a significantly larger kidney grille stretching almost the entire height of the front fascia, which was previewed by the BMW Concept 4 at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show back in September.

Not everyone is happy, but BMW insists that consumers want bolder designs. The drastic change will also help distinguish the new 4 Series Coupe from its 3 Series sedan sibling. We'll have to reserve judgment until the covers eventually come off the production model. Inside, however, the changes are less dramatic.Our spies have managed to snap some photos of the new 4 Series Coupe's cabin for the first time. While the exterior is still disguised in camouflage, BMW hasn't bothered to cover up the interior. Don't expect any surprises, however, because the dashboard design looks identical to the 3 Series, adopting a central 8.8-inch touchscreen, digital gauge cluster, and a center console with rotary controls to control BMW's iDrive system. Considering how radical the front fascia will look, we were hoping the interior would get a more significant revamp. Only the rear seats look marginally different.

Don't expect any major changes under the hood either, as the new BMW 4 Series will share the same engine as the 3 Series. As a result, the 430i will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 255 horsepower, while the M440i will use a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 380 hp.

As for the new M4, reports suggest it will pack a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six producing 473 hp, which will be sent exclusively to the rear wheels in the base model. Power is expected to increase to 503 hp in the range-topping Competition models, which is also expected to feature an all-wheel-drive system that can be switched to rear-wheel drive on the fly like in the M5.

Latest GCI and for the 1st time, I guess many potential buyer will be praying that these are not real!

BMW is preparing for a more controversial design future, with the facelifted 7-Series and new X7 acting as a sign of things to come.

The first Bimmer that’s going to fully grin at us though is the all-new 4-Series (together with its M3/M4 siblings), as previewed by the BMW Concept 4 at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year.

To give us a better understanding of what the final product might look like, Kolesa came up with these renderings, depicting both the front as well as the rear end of the new 4-Series.

The front end matches what we’ve seen so far pretty well, especially the styling in and around the grille. That being said, the headlight graphics are a bit more angular in real life, while the mesh grille down in the spoiler region features lines instead of the render’s honeycomb pattern.

Other than that, the new 4-Series should look just like this when viewed from the front, and will finally give the Audi A5 a run for its money in terms of grille size – or at least it will try to, because the Audi‘s will still be bigger.

As for the rear end, that’s a whole different story. All we have to go on, officially, is the Concept 4, which is what the designer used in order to complete this digital exercise. What he did here was to essentially “dumb down” the styling of the concept in order to make it more production-friendly.

As such, the rear is flatter than the Concept 4’s, while the taillights look more sensible – as do the graphics, although the pattern is similar.

When it finally does break cover, the all-new BMW 4-Series will be offered with multiple different engines. We expect to see a 430i model powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot with 255 HP and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, plus an M440i variant with a 382 HP turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit. The 473 HP (480 PS) all-new M4 will arrive at a later date.

OMG, hope the real thing is not like that...... the wider grill on 8er looks perfectly fine.

not sure why make it taller on the 4er
