Anyone own the GR Yaris here? was thinking it rent it in JAP , wanna ask with the rear seat folded down, able to fit 2 Large luggage? 28" size.

I felt it can be done, just not sure if the opening of the boot/aperture wise, able to slot it in.

Yes, plenty of space with the rear seats folded down. I also rented it earlier this year and it took in 2x 28in luggages plus skis.

Pics are from Toyota's website https://toyota.jp/gryaris/usability/:

Wah nice bro, means 2x 28Inch lugg , still got plenty of space ?

Since GR Yaris and 86 same price, why you choose GR? I think the 86 cant fit right as the aperture of the boot is small, and from the front the gap of the front seat / door also cant slot in the luggage.

and since you mentioned Ski, you went during Winter?Jan/Feb ? these fun car, not really fun in winter I guess? lol

Main consideration was the boot opening; a hatch door will always be easier to load and unload bulk stuff.

Plus, it was deep winter in late January. I didn't think a RWD would be a good idea on icy mountain roads, even with winter tyres on.

One thing to note though, the GR Yaris I rented was a 1.5L 3 cylinder automatic FWD RS model. Apparently the 2.0L manual AWD (the REAL GR) is also available for rent but very scarce and only bookable via the Japanese version of the website (assuming you are using Toyota Rent a Car too). It was still pretty good fun in the snow, though AWD would have been better since I was nearly stuck on the driveway of my airbnb.

You booked thru Toyota rent a car website too? the website shows its a 1.5L one. Cos Im not going for Ski hence only 2 large 28" lugg. not sure if the 86 able to fit or not, as the boot opening seems small.

are you on winter chain? or just winter tyres ? the 86 isnt the GR version tho. Im going mostly on autumn so dont think will encounter much snow on the road.

The 86 can be the ZN8 GR86 2.4L with both manual and auto available. I saw a few. It depends on the station you are renting from. Maybe try calling the English hotline to ask?

I only had winter tyres, no chains.

I just went to the Jap website to see, the GR86 only available at Hakodate side, but never mentioned about the GR Yaris 2L. Yeah maybe I will try calling them, see if they can understand. Wondering if I never select specific vehicle, if they assign me 86 and luggage cant fit, and no GR yaris, what to do..

Wanting to try the LC but seems everywhere also cant find the stock.

since we are on this topic , do drive in jap need IDP? or just bring SG license will do?

You need IDP together with SG license and passport.
