How many of our ministers can speak and debate well?

Now this video is a Q&A in a full house Parliament sitting regarding Politics/Religion

Disregarding the content of the video as it is a sensitive topic,

How well can our speakers really speak?

Shanmugam can speak and articulate well because he is a lawyer

Faisal Manap is less eloquent and our law minister seems to have him cornered to make a yes or no reply which is what lawyers are good at in getting you to make a confession. They box you in. Personally felt he was intimidated by Shanmugam

Pritnam Singh is another lawyer, responded well and allowed the discussion to move forward

Also, it's strange to see our PM and Tharman whispering to Shanmugam. Almost like a high school debate competition

Question: How many of our ministers are really good in public speaking?

Our PM speaks well but doesn't give me the impression of being a quick thinker

Thaman is a personal favorite of mine in terms of public speaking

From what I see...if you were to say something wrong or untrue in public you will be sued by you know who. Especially if you are a politician.

That's the "politics" I see growing up. The words of a politician is taken very seriously.

Like mee siam mai hum. Heng ah, the mee siam community didnt sue him.

Seriously??.... our PM ?

pork soup joke, middle kingdom speech, mee siam mai hum, fix opponents, vietnam saga... he cant ... he depends on the powers and privilege of his office as no one really get to challenge him.

tharman cut his teeth in the private sector, and among international financial sharks.. he is the real deal.

sham is a lawyer, a good lawyer no doubt... he also largely depends on the power of his office and also intimidation.

if religion and race issues must be kept away from politics

please explain why my indian colleague is nominated as our Malay president

everything is directly or indirectly connected

you may win a debate but may not win the hearts of the people

Isn't that race issues instead of religion and they want equal representation from all races?  I could be wrong....

My opinion.

Actually its not an issue of whether or not a person is a good debater or not.  It's that most of us tend to be imprecise with our speech and easily get caught out.  That is where trained lawyers can pick it out and corner you.

A very simple example.

Additional bus fares would mean more hardship for many commuters.

A simple rebut.

How many is many and did you do a survey?

SMRT did do a survey.  You can argue on the accuracy of it but you cant prove it but they did do a survey.  And you didnt.  That's where the problem is.

So if you look at how trained lawyers fight it out, you realise they choose their words carefully while people like us tend to just say what we think is correct.  Example would be sylvia lim who would always quote this newspaper article as support or that minister's speech as support.

LHL only reading from the script when he speaks well...

Otherwise, the nonsense you hear from him is really from him.

Can’t blame him...he’s not linguistically but mathematically trained

Yes, and it shows. His speeches frequently involve a Reductio Ad Absurdum.

Unfortunately, most of the time, it's involuntary and rather comical at his expense. 😂
