Nowadays it's quite a trend to turbo-charged small petrol engines. One factor is to make those cars more saleable in markets with heavier taxes on larger engines.  But in long-term I don't know how those engines will fare.

In the early 80s, a 3.0L fuel injection is about 150bhp+

2.0L only 120bhp+

yeah. hp = torqueXrpm/5000 something. engines last time have lower rpm compared to the modern counterparts. A good example are the american flat head engines.

but there are no replacement for displacement. Smaller CC engine is just feel asthmatic at higher speeds.

yes, the larger engines just feel stronger .. good examples i remember driving back to back - the old W202 C180 and C200, the C200 was i think about $10000 or $15000 more but it felt so much more refined and better suited to a mercedes .. ditto the W211 E200 and E230 ..

The Maluness is not so much on the numbering of the models. It is because they were hailed by pax waiting by the road side. When they see white Merc approaching, thinking that they were cabs, they would raise they hands to stop the "taxi".:XD:

Since then, buyers would pick colours other than white.

I wonder is it uniquely singapore?

The merc limousines I've seen in other countries are all black e or s classes. Only sg uses white e class taxis.
