The GLB is a pretty good car for a typical Small S’porean family.

i have an opportunity to have a Go when my usual Merks was shunted by a Lexus,on a Raining day ,somemore .

Before I noes it ,I was given a replacement Mercs & when I look at the Specs with a 1.3 engine & arnd 128 horses ,I was Mmmm.

My Accident car was a 3.5 so there’s some trepidation when time to Swap car.

It looks so much Bigger than what it was & i realli Tip toe for the first few kilometres.

But the power is good, perhaps the Pick up from the light is a bit Weak but u Juzz stab a bit more.

The suspension from the newer 1300 Entry Level M.B are pretty Pliant compare to the older 1500 ,its way too stiff.

The Best Road to test the Powerband of any Engine is the CTE .say from Town to woodland ,plenty of Ascending & Descending stretch.

Dis 7 Speed DCT matches the Engine on dis hiway perfectly hovering arnd 6 gear at Legal speed.

Juzz push the pedal  a bit more  ,if u wans to Climb.

Perfect gearing btw Engine & Gearbox.

My CLA will be at overdrive at 7 which u realli needs to paddle shift if u wans the  Oomph .

Even my earlier C253 Diesel are not dat good on dis stretch ,perhaps due to the 9 Speed but thought  the greater torque of the Diesel will Shine thru.

Another feature i like is the Gliding Mode on dis GLB. Which normally onli Mercedes Diesel will get.

U take off the foot from the Accelerator pedal when u are Comming to a stop or Crusing & engine RPM drops to idle & the car Gludes.

Awesome.

Dis is exactly why I hates EV ,dey have dis thing called one pedal driving or degenerative braking .

Rubbish.

.

Great that you enjoyed the ride. Just to add that the one pedal braking can be switched off for many EVs so it's often an option. Don't be too quick to dismiss all that as rubbish yet.

Yes,some can be turn off or Moderated but it Spoils the whole Driving X’perience.

Beginning of last year ,I happened to bump into some mates who’s eyeing some EV .

So go & check out quite a few .

Mercs EQC ,Tesla 3  ,Polestar .

Think All have  dat kind of Bad Feel dat I mentioned.

Polestar ,I can Tweek a little but when I pressed on the Pedal ,it dun half moved, ,u gotta step a lot more.
Seriously ,what’s the deal with all dis one pedal driving.

How much does it realli Charge the Battery.

All Nonsense ,if u ask me?

The worse part of dis Degenerative braking is ,yr Foot must be on it ALL the time.

Plain RUBBISH.

I think it's a matter of taste and you definitely have the right to your own feel and opinion.

Some EVs don't have a one pedal braking function and they also end up being criticized by reviewers for the lack of it. Can't really satisfy everyone.

For me I personally prefer the lack of a coasting function as there's no 'engine braking' feel, but that's just me. Very often, the coasting function is inbuilt and can't be turned off. I'm not sure if this is the case of the GLB. Of cos, some prefer that freewheeling feeling so YMMV.

Yes,it’s down to a Personal choice per Se.

i noticed the Gliding mode is not available for many Mercs model x’cept in the Diesel previously ,dats where I found it in My C253 & I absolutely LOVES it .

Guess the newer M.B have dat now ,as the GLB is basically an Entry Level ones.

I am the type who wans to Relax my Foot ,say 30/40  before a Red Light ,a Free wheeling kind of thing, perhaps to saves a little petrol.

But the Biggest problem in EV for a one pedal driving besides the Feel, is the Danger it caused.

I have many mates who drives taxi & Grab & noticed dis Phenomenon.

EV can slow down their speed of their vehicle without having their Brake Light ,Lights up .

Guess ,from yr post U are an EV owner.

Hope Not all EV ,are wired dis way.

*PS

To enlighten u on the Coasting feel & yr no engine braking .

Do remembered I mentioned the Engine is on Idle Not Cut off or Dead.

I don't own an EV and have not even test driven one. Like you, I have gone on to test drives with my friends who test drove a few EVs but never keen to drive one for now. Just sharing what I have observed from the drives and from online reviews.

I test drove Tesla Model 3.  It is unnatural for ICE car drivers.

When enter a corner, rather than stepping on brake, need to release throttle.

Regen brake has more than enough bite to slow down the car to accelerate out of the corner.

Nice exchange .

Hope we have more dialogue like dis over here rather than keep hearing Rant like FL vs PFL ,Car discount ,rear aircon ,COE Blah blah .

Hope EV wun go the Routes of the CNG ,Died a natural death .

As u might have known Hydrogen & Synthetic fuel is almost upon us.

Go down & check it out .

Dun Relied on on-line feedback & Review(Nvr trust those ,maybe their mates write one)

Find some time to Test drive the New one at See&See & go down to the Used car dealer for a look see plus a drive.

Many things onli See & Touch ,then u will get the pic.

All I can say the puny 1300 4 cylinder are pretty Good compare to the 3 pot of the other German Marque.

@gandyman Driving one now for the past 2 weeks.
What I like
- Pickup was smoother than expected. 1-60km is close to my previous E Class(W212). Don't feel underpowered

- The MBUX system was very useful especially for voice assist and wireless apple carplay

- Comfortable ride on expressway. Don't feel sluggish

- Hardly any noise in cabin (except when you step on accelerator hard)

- almost similar driving range compared to W212 despite its smaller fuel capacity (52 l vs 80l). Would be even better if the range is longer.

- I don't really need the 3rd row, so the 2nd row seat is pushed all the way back. This made the 2nd row very spacious. Even more spacious compared to GLC.

What could be better

- Engine working overtime when accelator is stepped on hard.

- Advise to turn active brake assist to 'close' from the default 'moderate'. There was once the car jam brake when it was close to the front car,so I changed it

- Default comfort mode (would prefer eco mode) when driving

- Internet connection via hotspot is dodgy. But when it works you can view website on the browser app.

- Signal light was barely audible.

Overall, was plesantly surprised with the ride. Was expecting it to be a slouch, but it turned out to be decent. Don't feel like a Cat A car.

Awesome Reviews posted.

Unlike the usual nonsense here.

Dunno I have mentioned before I have the GLB 180 for abt 10 days ,there or there about .

Its s Replacement car after my 2 seater ,hard top cabriolet Mercs  was shunted by a madam !

U didn’t mention what specs are u on but for my base 1.3 ,think 128 horses ,it’s pretty good.

The powerband is Veri ususable,at hiway Legal speed ,it’s on 6 gear & the Oomph is always there unlike my ,the other Mercs ,which is a Gen behind . a 1500.

But my one on hiway it’s oredi on overdrive ,7 gears & Pretty much Cruising not much accelerating to be had.

Another thing I noticed ,the suspension is pretty pliant ,comfortable too unlike the many 1.5 Version of the Entry Level Mercs which is too harsh for my Liking.

Oops

i oredi said too much ………

Neutral Newbie

@gandyman After 16 years of Japanese CVT, I was sold after test driving a GLA for the smooth DCT and the cosy comfort interior. As suggested by the Salesperson, went for a 2nd test drive to try out the GLA and GLB back to back within the same week. Was sold by the additional generous space of a GLB from GLA.

If there is no need for a bigger boot, GLA is good enough, at least for me. If it is within budget, consider GLB that has more leg and head room.

I am happy with the service rendered by the salesperson and had signed on the dotted line on the same day after test driving both the GLA and GLB.
