Even home fibre broadband set up or electronics will specifically warn about laser eye danger. Some idiots actually tried the laser thing at civilian airports on incoming planes, it can do permanent eye damage or temp blindness. It's a jailable offence, and that's just commercial stuff not military grade. This is not the first time Chinese vessels did this dirty trick, even its "fishing boats" was reported doing it. Can't imagine what those ccp would say if some vessel turned up at say shanghai coast and started lasering at the Chinese planes. There's no defending such behaviour. Its true what china did is wrong, But why u choose not to see what Australia do? they drop a sonobuoy as close a 4km from china ship in international water. Go check if this is normal or super dangerous, this is not a training or exercise, Australia is lucky china didnt see it as enemy and shoot it down. If u ask me, both side are wrong, but obviously Australia want to play then realise they 玩不起 ↡ Advertisement

Sono buoy is a listening device. if say cannot listen: then i confidently say ALL naval ships and subs are sailing with their active and passive sonars wide open, that includes PLN. And those buoys are dropped all the time, im sure PLN also does it. nowhere in even commercial sailing is 4km considered close: Ships sail not even 400m to each other, all ships, incl PLN ships and esp militia fishing boats are infamous and do it deliberately. This is not about 玩不起, this is hypocrisy and utter recklessness. If anything, using a blinding laser device to aim at pilots is an attack and shows unbelievable escalatory stupidity at senior command level giving ROE or loss of tactical control by local commanders... let alone militiamen.

But the way i see, no 1 go international water and throw sona bouy at 4km from another ship, esp military ships. U have your point, i respect it, But i still see Australia want to play with china first. But back out when china play back.

If anything, using a blinding laser device to aim at pilots is an attack and shows unbelievable escalatory stupidity at senior command level giving ROE or loss of tactical control by local commanders... let alone militiamen. im sure laser pointing at pilot eyes is not a good thing for deterrence during peace time. a laser is a point source of light and if your eye is not directly in front of the highly narrow beam of light, you will never see the light. it also depends on the strength of the laser to cause irritation or retina damage. being able to aim a laser at such distance and accuracy to reach a pilots eyes is no mean feat of accuracy and precision. considering a floating vessel is rocking very much in 6 degrees of freedom and a plane is travelling very fast in the air. so far all reports are self reported and i see no evidence of such apparatus that can be so steady in rocking seas to maintain aim at a human eye. this is similar to the havana syndrome us embassies report they are under attack from. no evidence, all self reported. not condoning laser pointing but if there is evidence, I would be very interested to know since the tech and money require for such an apparatus to do so would be very high tech and definitely cant be fitted on fishing boats simply becos it is expensive and certainly not small in size. try holding a laser pointer in your hand and track a plane 20k ft in the sky. definitely cant be done if there was such an apparatus, i would think the planes would have taken photos of the ship and try and locate where this thing is mounted and show the world what the plan is doing. but i am inclined to think it is like the havana syndrome since nothing solid is presented
