There were 2 coaches. None of them are independent. One was his former coach and the other was the coach at the time of the marathon.

BTW, what about the witnesses found by SNOC that said Liew did slow down? Ignore?

Not taking any sides but the big difference is that , those in the papers that says they did not see it , allow their names to be published whereas those 4 witnesses found by SNOC , their names are not published even though SNOC had stated that SD had been issued .

so till now , the public do not know who these 4 witnesses are and how are they related to liew .

Marathon is the most boring sports to watch on TV.

For SEA Games, i think 2.5 hrs finish liao.

Soh started running marathon in 2014, and in 2016, the year after he won SEA gold, he had issue with Mok, a fellow marathon runner, who is the 2013 SEA gold medalist and 7 times SCSM local champion, with regards to how SA sld correct its selection criteria.

https://www.todayonline.com/sports/mok-defends-spore-athletics-rio-wildcard-discussion

and then look at his response to Mok days later, putting forward a challenge because of different opinion? Again, it show that performance alone doesnt get you places.

https://www.facebook.com/sohruiyong/photos/dear-mok-ying-ren-if-you-have-a-problem-pick-up-the-phone-and-call-me-to-clarify/1044492255626424/

I dont know Sim, but have some conversation with Ang Cheng Xiang before. A fine young man who mostly kept to himself during training and doesnt talk a lot. Cheng Xiang broke the national record 3 times this year, after making some changes to his start.

so why did Soh not brought up the issue and protest against the award to Liew earlier?

this is what he said.

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/my-only-regret-not-speaking-sooner-says-marathoner-soh-teammates-disputed-sportsmanship

and I copy and paste what I find interesting about what he had not expected in the article.

However, Soh had not expected the story to “snowball into two sportsmanship medals”,

He added that he had not expected the story to be “brought up over and over again” as a tool to teach students and coaches about sportsmanship,

A 8th position runner has now outshine the champion?  Not acceptable to someone whom judge everything base on performance?

Liew was given a special award by SNOC, well that awards is an internal award, so SNOC made the final decision.  Soh really cant do  much abt it.

The problem I see is the award by Pierre de Coubertin world fair play Trophy. Soh is very upset with this award presented to Liew which became talk of the town, over shining his SEA games gold medal. But SNOC only nominated Liew, It is the Fair play council that decides to award the trophy to Liew, Soh's action is putting him alone vs Liew, SNOC and The Fair play council.

To dig up something after 3 years with such explanation? Well, its up to individual to judge his character.

He mentioned he might one day run for the Post of SA President if his passion still drive the day he is done with running. To me, for a person who puts forward performance as the only critical,  disregard team work and respect for team mates, using performance as challenge to shut out any other opinion, and not knowing how to function as a team, I think he is best stick to his running alone.  [laugh]  [laugh]  [laugh]

so the pierre trophy is just given blindly?

Wouldn't the trophy committee done their own research before giving out the trophy?

i dont know if the same apply to all marathon, but when i watched the Boston and London marathon, there were break down of the pace every 5km for the leading pack. It would have captured what pace was Liew running his 1st 5km and the next 5km, since the event happened at the 5.5km mark. [laugh]  [laugh]  [laugh]

I agree the public doesn't know. But Soh was given the opportunity to review the SD.

Not doing so and insisting on his version of events casts doubts on his motivations. Of course, we don't know what conditions they wanted to impose on him to review the SD - if I were him, I won't sign an NDA.

I think usually IAAF Gold label marathon likeLondon or Berlin marathon will have this type of coverage. Incidentaly, our SCSM 2019 is Gold label.

Too bad, the SEA games are not  Gold Labelled, so I doubt they have to meet that standard.

The public has the right to know. Why scare to let public know if they have nothing to hide? Obey blindly and the result is public funds spent on rubbish

Many years back, got a chance to talk to a chief of a sports association... they don't just pick the best athlete... his or her behaviours also play an impt part... imagine u represent Singapore, but end up in front of everyone go diu ne lo mo, ham kar chan... every nite cheong chicken farm, gets drunk in the pub and running around naked....

Don't think we wanna have this type of people representing Singapore, no matter how good he or she is, not even that J schooling... he go haywire, he will be drop... period.

Ok lah. to be fair to Soh, all his controversy so far have all been about the cutting holes in sponsors apparel for his personal comfort, his doubt about what happened during the sportsmanship award and some clashes with the administration.

Our Olympic champion also got misconduct many years back... But he admitted, apologised, and given warning.

It's like employee have a big argue with big boss. There is dispute on how company direction is going. The big boss thinking, I set the company rules and direction. How dare you small employee dares challenge me? The employee still around, but when there is future promotion, pay rise, bonus and etc. This employee will be the one losing out.

Sort of this line. So once the bridge is burnt, no point staying. So for Soh rui Yong case, the bridge is burnt. So yeah...

IMHO.

Perhaps that is why companies never progress.

This may applies to organisations,   the big boss is never/no need to be there for the long haul, but the small employee will//need to be there forever.

Now that you have mentioned. It seem like the Gold medal at SEA games for marathon is really nothing to shout about comparing even to our very own SCSM, which Soh never took part until ask to do so last year!!!  [:p]

But since  Soh was in the leading pack, and Liew just a pack behind, surely the many cameras would have been focusing on them. I am sure there would be video footage to show how the guys ran, more over it was only 5.5km into the race, so a change in pace would have been very obvious if Liew had slowed down.

It is quite strange if there is zero video footage to show what actually happened.  [laugh]  [laugh]  [laugh]

Our SCSM wants to be part of World Marathon Majors.

That’s why start time moves to Saturday evening.

Can sign up both marathon and 10km

This is why so much politics in all our sporting organisations.

Look only for conformists (which real athlete is?) and once you move away from results, you get sports heads abusing their power and puting out all sorts of vague funny criteria that places people of lower ability above others.

And on poor behaviour you rely on censure and fines - not at SELECTION.

These are the people who run down all our sports. Haha.

in order to advance in what you are doing, you need to be thick skin and always take the side where your higher superior stand.you need to be a YES man all the time.

do not offend your higher superior, forget about your principle.

even if you choose to stay, you will lose your bonus and increment.

Therefore, learn my man, learn to Learn. once the bridge is broken, learn to built another one and carry on with your life.

Doesn't mean must say yes all the time. This is a misconception. The trick is that if you want to do something different, you must be able to convince your boss, whether by facts or by psychological means. Both ways require tact and reading your boss' thinking. That's the hardest trick to learn in advancing career
