For SUV of such size and weight, a CRDi is always prefered. 

Unless C n C can bring in the new 2.5T... if NA... it will be a waste of time and fuel, and lots of frustration also.

2021 Kia Sorento (MQ4) Has A New Platform And 227 HP 1.6-Liter Hybrid Engine

Prior to the launch of the all-new Kia Sorento, codenamed MQ4, at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the South Korean automaker has detailed the SUV’s new platform and one of its engines.

Underpinning the Sorento is Kia’s new midsize SUV platform that incorporates a compact engine bay structure, shorter overhangs, and a longer wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing Sorento, the new model is 10 mm longer and features a 35 mm longer wheelbase that now measures 2,815 mm. This results in “more room than in many other midsize SUVs.”

In North America, Europe, and Korea, this new platform supports the car manufacturer’s latest ‘Smartstream’ turbo-hybrid powertrain.

It combines a 1.6-liter T-GDI turbocharged engine, a 44.2 kW (59 HP / 60 PS) electric motor, and a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack for a system output of 227 HP (230 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. A series of other petrol engines will be announced in the near future as will an additional plug-in hybrid variant.

Customers of the new Kia Sorento in Korea, the U.S. and Europe will also have some diesel engines available. In Korea and Europe, Kia’s 2.2-liter four-cylinder ‘Smartstream’ diesel engine with 199 HP (202 PS) and 324 lb-ft (440 Nm) will be paired with Kia’s new eight-speed wet double-clutch transmission. Korean and U.S. customers will also be able to opt for Kia’s 2.5-liter T-GDi ‘Smartstream’ engine delivering 277 HP (281 PS) and 310 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque, coupled with the same eight-speed transmission.

Elsewhere, the new Sorento includes Kia’s first Multi-collision Brake system that will apply the brakes when the airbags have been deployed after an initial collision in order to reduce the risk of a secondary impact. Also used by the new Sorento will be a remote smartphone Surround View Monitor that works alongside the in-vehicle Surround View Monitor to make parking that little bit easier.

Additional details will be released on March 3 when the 2021 Kia Sorento will celebrate its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Carbuyer mag said C n C will bring in this new Sorento in 2nd half of this year. That's seriously quick for a new model launch. 

And it kinda defies the now accepted rumor that few manufacturers give a damn to us since our market is so damn small and we keep asking the manufacturer to del this and that to keep the OMV down, which  disrupt their production lines

ADs will prioritize models that sell... and give them good margins... the Sorento was a winner for C&C... not surprising they will try to bring it in asap... I would certainly be very surprised if they prioritized bringing in the new Optima... ha ha...

Optima nobody buy lar. Sorrento might be different case. But Sorrento quite expensive.

Harrier is not 7 seater

 

and if u notice who is direct competitor of sorento? Its cx9 only

 

kodiaq santa fe 5008 crv all these are short less than 4.7m. Sorento easily 4.8m and most spacious for 3rd row seat. 
 

hence sorento offer good value for those who prefer 7 seater also for mpv upgrader

Harrier is a very old and outdated model already. And its smaller than the Sorento. Can't compare directly. 

The closest Toyota model to compete with the Sorento is the.... Fortuner..   But... without the 2.4L D4D, and Fortuner;s truck chassis, the Sorento can run rings ard the Fortuner anytime la and its far cheaper too. 

Sorento also competes with Santa Fe la

Fortuner too tall and expensive

 

santa fe i feel build quality not as solid as sorento somehow. So really not much competitor either cx 9 or santa fe haha

So with this all new Sorento, Hyundai group shall update the Santa Fe accordingly since both are always sharing the same platform and engine lineup. 

Or maybe Hyundai will just use the Pallisade and compete with even higher end SUVs.

I will test drive the palisade once it reaches our shore. Hopefully its priced cheaper than cx9 hahaha

This is not about priority or not priority.

It is a very simple fact that the factory producing the Sorento in Korea where our supply comes from will switch manufacturing to the new model after the launch, and after a certain period of time it is not possible to order the old model anymore la. So if C&C continues to sell the Sorento and Kia allocates supply from Korea, it will automatically need to launch the new model here. No need to think too much.....
