It will be helpful if for example you are on unintended acceleration on the highway etc. Frankly I would be stumped too cos my car no neutral, no hand brake etc. Please enlighten me, what car is that?By the way not sure it would be better to push the gear stick to park and step on the brake? The situation might be better if one is travelling on expressway.Multiple presses quickly will do the same. Mythbusters tried it.

The car was gg straight meaning distance from the lot to gantry was 15-20m. Looks more like a launch (accelerate then shift from neutral to drive) then brake failure. Philipkee Twincharged March 6, 2019 Share March 6, 2019 Irrelevant story. But once I was testing a car. The car was parked gear in neutral and for some reason I wanted to feel the pedals with my foot. So I kicked off my slippers. First pedal I pressed was the brake pedal and there was resistance. I was surprised as engine was on. Tried again. Resistance. I used one foot to see if there was an obstruction underneath and found that one slipper had inadvertently gone underneath the brake pedal and not allowing me to brake. Small issue as car was not even in gear but after that incident, I NEVER kick off any footwear while driving or put anything near the pedals when driving. So I never drive barefoot at all. I do see some people doing that and I tell people the dangers. I have two minds about sudden unintended acceleration. On one hand I don't deny it can happen. On the other hand I think it's more likely driver panicked. Two cents And yes I drive hyundai cars. Hopefully one day will be Honda.

I always tuck slippers under my thighs near to seat. Never got anything stuck before.

1fast1 Supersonic March 6, 2019 Share March 6, 2019 Barefoot driving is OK only as long as you can be sure the slippers are not going under any pedals. Safest is put them all on the passenger side. Of course you miffy be alone or have a compliant passenger haha. Professionals will never allow you to drive barefoot. That applies to to both driving centres and on track. So I had to get used to driving with shoes on as well. On track and during Malaysia drives, I use racing shoes that give excellent feel. For normal commute, I use my standard office shoes. Driving with office shoes is fine for 2 pedal cars but I have no feel for heel and toe for clutched cars. So I used to drive with socks on for my Alfa (which I've sold off now anyway).
