Quite attractive pricing recently.. went to Ubi showroom and SE said with the mazda 100th anniversary its $123,888 for the 2.0l premium trim. However only comes with 3yr warranty and servicing which seems bit low on the warranty side...

Times are so bad, wait for the COE to drop further.

You're asking a fella who got it like almost a year back bro / sis.😀 Not a great gauge because of COE in Oct 2020 was about 41k vs the 56k today.

Typically you don't really get to knock off much from the sticker price for Mazda from my experience this year. about 2-3k off is probably on the more realistic end, and they usually are reluctant to give you much cash discount. The easier thing to wrangle off them would be extended servicing / warranty and accessories.

PM me if you need more info.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you're expecting COE prices to head down significantly anytime soon this year, I'd say barring any shock events like a financial crisis or recession - it's not happening. Prices might fluctuate and head down a a few k, but to expect say 10k sort of correction, I personally doubt it. (And no, I'm not a car salesman - I was struggling with the dilemma earlier this year as well.)

When the "right" time will be, is rather subjective based on different people's needs. For some, if they don't need a car, then buying at a supposedly "lower COE" price is not the right time. For others, if there is a real need for a car, even with high COE prices, it will still be the right time to buy. So you'd probably know your own situation best.

A couple of articles and analysis on the topic if you google online on COE "forecasting", but in a nutshell, we are essentially entering a phase of lower COE quota years. So lower supply and holding demand constant = higher prices. And if demand isn't constant and is increasing then = huge uptick in prices. There is probably more downside risks than upside to waiting if you really do need a car.

And despite covid, the only real "impact" was last year because of the initial shock of pretty extreme lockdowns which we are unlikely to see repeat. And this year has been quite surprising, the economy has actually proven to be more resilient and people or at least a significant enough portion of people have probably came away alright or even better financially despite covid19. We see this reflecting in the higher demand in both property and cars.

All the best! And just think out loud, might be a bit "daunting" driving the CX-5 as a first car! 😆 At least I think it would have been for me donkey years ago! But then again times have changed a lot in terms of car technology like sensors and 360 cam since then.

lol.. I actually am pondering the same if I can handle CX-5 well since it is not a small car..

But I really prefer SUV than Sedan as I want to have better view and feel more comfortable sitting in SUV.  I will have test drive first before I make final decision. Thanks for pointing it out.

@aileen80
CX5 was on my shortlist previously too, in fact i was very close to putting down a deposit before I settled on the BMW 216i GT at PML's June Financial year-end sale.
Mazda's interior has always been the best among the Japs (barring Lexus), but in the end after test drive, I decided against it because the drive just wasnt quite as enjoyable.

Maybe its the slow-shifting 6sp GB? or the slightly sluggish 2.0 NA engine? im not sure. But CX-5's ride comfort is definitely there. Seats are cushy, suspension is soft and enjoyable. Would have prefer Turbo-charged though for higher torque during low-revs.

Jus wondering - since now BMW X1 is doing agressive promo at ~$149K with 5yrs warranty + 5yrs servicing, would it turn the heads of prospective CX5 (or similar ~$130K price range) buyers? Hmm..

How much did you settle on BMW216i?

$150k is out of my budget.. As I m first time buyer, I prefer a more reliable car.
