mersaylee Hypersonic April 21, 2019 Share April 21, 2019 HDL dazzles with polite answers and courteous service. Although the noodle making is nice bit of work but sometimes the noodle hits the floor....that bit turned me off immediately to HDL. Its a nice place to go if the ego is in need of 大爷 treatment. Not seeing a return anytime in the next decade. The best hotpot is at home with family and friends. Agreed wholeheartedly on the last sentence especially when I don’t have to do the washing after that. But...大爷...with 红兜肚 put on...?
Ysc3 Twincharged May 17, 2019 Author Share May 17, 2019 HDL just upped the ante again !! dunno if applicable with SG outlets or not … if families want to eat in peace without their children making noise at the table, the children can be put in the play room. and fret not, coz the diners will get to monitor the whole playroom with a tablet right at their table ! Tianmo Hypersonic May 17, 2019 Share May 17, 2019 if i am not wrong, Jpot own by the jumbo seafood grp. Mayb they also not doing too well. Had Jpot a few times at the vivo branch, a part from the sauces which I really enjoyed, its just another " food cook in a pot" kind of thing.
Tianmo Hypersonic May 17, 2019 Share May 17, 2019 These days, I think F&B you either go sibei high end and charge high high dine in rate, or you have to make sure your food is delivery friendly and cost effective.

Sounds very familiar. Beauty in a Pot (Paradise group) at this Vivocity (next to Vivo library) also have something like that? From xiaolongbao switch to mala hotpot over a couple of months...talk about eating trends. Anyway I never fancy steambot type of cuisine.
Lala81 Hypersonic May 17, 2019 Share May 17, 2019 (edited) The Sichuan / Chongqing people eat hotpot precisely because of high humidity climate. They believe that the hot spices will "force out" the humidity in our body. Maybe similar to how we eat a lot of spicy hot sambal chili in Southeast Asia. HDLY service is really good, maybe too good for my liking. I prefer to have my meals in peace with only the company of my friends and family. [laugh] One good thing I like about them though, there is never corkage charges. You are encouraged to bring your own bottle. No need to buy or drink lousy wine or spirits at mark up prices, bring your own Cognac, Burgundy, .. no extra charges and they will still provide chiller, ice, glasses, etc. That means their food markup is high. Cos most traditional western restaurants earn a significant amount from their wine. Edited May 17, 2019 by Lala81

Ysc3 Twincharged May 17, 2019 Author Share May 17, 2019 True. Hot pot can't dabao lol. have lah … but dunno now still have or not. I once ordered Japanese hotpot … home delivery … soup base came in a plastic bag - frozen. then the other ingredients came in plastic disposables …. all in a thermal bag. just heat up the soup and throw everything inside. came with Calrose rice also … but definitely have to cook extra rice own self. Their seafood restaurants are packed even on weekdays. I see a lot of corporate clients dining there. They also have Tsui Wah HK Café at Clarke Quay, business there very brisk too.

Renegade777 5th Gear May 24, 2019 Share May 24, 2019 Hotpot eaters might want to check out another hotpot eatery ...shilifang. Service not bad and pieces are OK also... They also have set meals... And you get a free toy also! Agree with you. Had HDL but later tried Shilifang. It is not bad, and thereafter I have stop going for other hot pots. Nowadays will go Shilifang once every two months or in a month.

Icedbs Turbocharged May 25, 2019 Share May 25, 2019 Actually for Hotpot, wouldn't it be far cheaper to just do it at home? I mean, there is no cooking involved...just grab all the raw stuff from NTUC and throw it into the hot soup. ↡ Advertisement
