Mini JCW

Dear all,

Thinking of getting a JCW, the 3 door version. Is there anything that I should watch out for?

Is the extra power worth the premium?

I heard that the post 2014 versions are more reliable, is that correct?

Thanks for answering this noob’s questions. :)

Cheers

Turbocharged

This renewed COE 1.6l example is good value for money at $65,900 to drive for 10 more yrs

https://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=817758&DL=3486

Depends on your wants and needs. The Mini is more of a lifestyle statement, rather than a practical car with space.

The same money can also get you -

- Brand new Hyundai Accent, Mitsubishi Attrage or Perodua MYVI

- One year old used Hyundai Elantra

- 10 yr old Mercedes E200 W211

- 10 year old 2000cc Japanese car like Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana, Honda Accord, with lots of change to spare ($55K to $60K)

*10 yr old cars stated, with new 10 yr COE

workshop advice - NO !!! hahaha

If you really like it, set aside 2k per year

Yah preferably, get the N18 engine instead of the N14.

that is with the N14 engine. I understand the N18 are more reliable. Just not = to Toyota, but much more reliable than the N14.

 A 2016 Cooper S 2.0L is already pushing 192bhp & 280Nm

while this 2009 1.6L JCW is only 171bhp?

IMHO, this is just a dealer-anyhow-say Cooper S with a JCW spoiler. The real 2009 JCW is  1.6L Turbo 207bhp.

The JCW N14 engine stay till 2012/ 2013 even when N18 started to appear in 2010 for the cooper S. Strange.

As the JCW auto did not appear locally till 2013, this probably is not a factory JCW, possibly a Habitat commissioned JCW.

Sometimes SGCM do not have the right model info for all models. Anyway, JCW or not, can always verify with Habitat or ask for proof.

Yeah, SGCM listing info is still free text entry by the dealer/seller. Still must do own homework.

My point is to highlight the discrepancy.

look at the back of the car, no JCW badge too. Just a cooper S badge.

totally agreed with you.

my 1st impression when look at the advert was this is not JCW.

too many things not right for JCW.... badge, spoiler, seats etc and most impt is the horse power.

thanks for the comments.

the hunt goes on.

anyway, what is the attraction with JCW ?

More important to get a well-maintained Cooper S. If you want more power, there are ways ... ^_^

SGCM got many Cooper S

Minis' are not cheap to maintain and repair. Need to know a good capable workshop experienced with working on these cars. I was looking at the so called JCW Cooper S on SGcar mart. Horsepower indicated is wrong, JCW should be slightly over 200bhp.

Was looking to get one as a daily driver, the pepper white "JCW" was on hold for another customer loan application before I could go view the car. Would do a stripdown of the car and do a GP version with paint, decals and the works including the interior plus full overhaul of the engine before putting it back on the road.

JCW is like getting a BMW M car. Factory tuned, top spec car I guess.

Cooper S is like a M340i and the JCW is the M3?

Maybe to some people.
