There’re times I see advertisements using these terms that give some discounts. 1. Demo units 2. Display units 3. Event units 4. Management units 5. Have not seen advertisement saying “Test drive units” Hi, am not a SE but just my guess and understanding from conversation during my shopping back then. Hope it helps. 1. Demo units - No idea haha 2. Display units - Cars that are displayed in roadshows, showrooms etc, rarely driven, can register as new car 3. Event units - Cars used for events such as "Volvo OCBC cycle event or something", clocked a certain mileage but can register as new car. 4. Management units - Cars are used by management for a period of time, these are usually registered and considered second hand cars 5. Have not seen advertisement saying “Test drive units” - Cars used for your usual shopping test drives, though mileage is high, some are considered new if they use trade plates "hanging blue color" or if they register the car then it will be used. Spring Moderator April 4, 2019 Share April 4, 2019 Some Mgmt cars are actually courtesy cars lent to owners when their car (normally new) gets stuck in the AD workshop under warranty. These cars have been passed around from one person to another so I would say that together with test drive cars, these 2 types are the most abused. Don’t know why they label them as Mgmt as I don’t think any of their Mgrs use thes cars.

Ct3833 Supersonic April 4, 2019 Share April 4, 2019 (edited) Other than display unit, the rest all don't buy Prime Select do have quite a fair bit of management cars from time to time being offered at very good price. This is especially so during June period. Those are fairly new cars that are used up to about 3,000km to meet the LTA requirement before they get transferred from Performance to Prime Select for sale. These management cars are good to buy because of the substantial discount from the new car sales price. Dont look at their advertised price, go take a look and if you are keen in a particular car, give salesman the price that you are willing to pay, you will be surprised how much they are willing to close your deal. Thats not all, when the coe results came out, he had another windfall of 8K off.
1fast1 Supersonic April 4, 2019 Share April 4, 2019 (edited) The lines are grey. Some event cars may be completely new since they may oversupply to the event and not use them e.g. Airshow. Some management cars are also used for test drives. The Stinger GT test drive car was used by management. The F90 BMW M5 was used both as a management car and an extended test drive car - I had it for 3 days. Edited April 4, 2019 by Turboflat4

A couple of my colleagues have been replacing their cars regularly using Prime Select as well. Two of them recently just walked away a 530 each. One of them was offered 60k discount from a new 530e list price but he said no 200k no talk. End up he walked away with the asked price.

Else its like a circus show in here. Problem with this scenerio is you MUST be in a psoition to 1. Buy 2. know what is the price point and what is a good value 3. settle for colours thet your fungshui master say cannot get like purple. 4. Loose a bit of Atas status because its transacted in a hurry and not , "wait hur, I bring my girlfrend and their friends along so that they can envy her" because they went europe and you din go so must make up for lost face incident kind of "feel" 5. Some cosmetic imperfection even if its a one off limited edition must be accepted. In most cases will be very well detailed before handing over. 6. Maybe pre-facelift so u actually driving a new car, new plate but old model Edited April 4, 2019 by Sdf4786k

By the way, for those who want to buy their management cars, after June(mid July to early Sept ) is the best time. Otherwise, after Dec(mid Jan to early Mar) is the second best time. that is the period they have the most stock available. Blueray Hypersonic April 4, 2019 Share April 4, 2019 believe there is no industry standard for classification of demo, display, management units etc .... best is to go down to the showroom to view the car, check mileage and confirm with SE what the car was really used for since first registration. mileage tells the biggest story here. event cars more clear cut, already tell you upfront it was used for what event and what mileage to expect. Like the rest said can be test drive or registered units to clock the number of units the local AD has committed to buy so that they meet the sales targets. My take is if your cars are selling well , why the need for crap like management units. Event cars la or whatever bulls**t to sell cars. You see toyota and Mercedes advertising management units? Primes select one are quite genuine . Not test drive car. If you are keen , can pop by one day to see it for yourself. But at times they have only some larger or more exotic car. Must go during the right time. And at least they provide an option to buy near to new car at a substantial discount price. Try Republic and I can be sure you wont get the same good deal for mercedes. Bottom line is, it is considered used and how much discount in the end. Whichever way it’s spun, it’s all about the money. I laugh at some ADs discounting pittance for a used car.
