Singapore Airlines grounds two 787-10s citing Rolls-Royce engine problem

The Trent 1000 TEN is the latest version of an engine that has had a problematic entry into service. As of late February, Rolls-Royce said 35 787s were grounded globally due to engine blades corroding or cracking prematurely.

The manufacturer said it was aiming to reduce the number to 10 by the end of the year.

In February, the company raised a Trent 1000 accounting charge to 790 million pounds ($1.03 billion) from 554 million pounds at the half year, contributing to a full-year operating loss of 1.16 billion pounds. It also allocated another 100 million pounds in cash to the problem.

Rolls-Royce said on Tuesday that since the entry into service of the Trent 1000 TEN, it had communicated to operators that the high-pressure turbine blades in the engine would have a limited life.

so means can claim warranty or not ?

Jetstar 787 suffers problems with both engines on approach to Osaka

The Jetstar 787 remains grounded at Kansai International Airport while it is inspected by engineers from the airline, General Electric and Boeing.

The fact the engine problems occurred during the 787's final approach to Kansai is a concern because the final minutes of any flight are the riskiest moments of a plane trip.

Rolls-Royce agrees to early inspection of problematic Trent engines

ROLLS-Royce has agreed to an early inspection of some Trent 1000 TEN engines by regulatory authorities, a week after Singapore Airlines Ltd grounded two Boeing Co 787-10 jets fitted with the units.

The latest version of the Trent engine has been dogged by problems since entering service at the end of 2017. According to Rolls-Royce, by late February, 35 787s had been grounded globally due to engine blades corroding or cracking prematurely.

"This blade deterioration is a known issue but it is occurring faster than we expected on some engines," Chris Cholerton, Rolls-Royce president for civil aerospace, said on Wednesday.

Boeing’s Dreamliner jet is now facing claims of manufacturing issues

Boeing workers have filed numerous safety complaints with the federal government over issues ranging from shoddy manufacturing practices to tools and debris being left on planes, and workers say they have been pressured to not report regulatory violations to authorities, The New York Times reports. The investigation found that Boeing workers have installed faulty parts in planes at the facility, and that some aircraft have even taken test flights with debris such as tools and metal shavings inside the engine or tail, creating potential safety hazards.

Boeing has denied manufacturing problems with the Dreamliner, and the company said “Boeing South Carolina teammates are producing the highest levels of quality in our history,” in a statement to The New York Times. However, the newspaper also reported that at least one major carrier, Qatar Airways, had been frustrated by manufacturing issues at that particular Boeing facility, with the airline opting to only buy its Dreamliners from a different Boeing facility since 2014.
