Borneo Motors cutting commission for their salesman!!! Means the brand can sell itself!!! No need these middleman to promote their cars. Damn, they should just revolutionize the car industry by buying or order online and give $3000 discount or something.

Anyone care to share the premium news on straits times??

Toyota distributor in labour mediation after proposed sales commission cut

SINGAPORE - In what may be another sign that the motor trade is bracing for a tailspin, Toyota agent Borneo Motors is planning to cut commissions paid to its sales staff - the first time it is doing so.

According to sales executives who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Inchcape company is proposing to cut commissions by $100 to $350 per car. At the same time, it is looking to raise sales targets.

The quota reduction in the next few years must be really serious for this to happen. Brace yourself for >$100k COE.

This is so strange. Shouldn't it be the opposite? Up the comm and raise sales target.

Not strange . The next few years will be tough for the new car market. Coe prices are rising . New policy will make new cars even more expensive . Somehow the company know that it's bottom line is gonna be affected seriously.

That's very true. they do not need Overpaid staff to sell a car that can sell by itself without much persuasion. It's a rather good move as some of their SE jin arrogant type

Correct. Why pay commission to Toyota SE when I myself can find out details about the cars on the internet?? If I can buy BTO direct from HDB without a agent, buying a new car should be likewise.

$6 to $8k per month for BM SE. That's quite a good sum. Wondering how many units to sell to earn this amount.

Maybe Borneo will reduce the price of their Toyota cars by the amount of commission they cut from their SEs?

No way. Whatever cost savings is the company profits. The cars are still selling very well, so no need to to reduce price.

That's very good money for a clerical work leh

No wonder Inchcape cut commission since the brand sells itself and the models being offered in sg are pretty basic. Plus many unker auntie buyers oredi made up their mind to buy only Toyota and nothing else so it's only a case of filling out the purchase order form...

Yep. But it's not easy to be selected to be Toyota SE. Those who cannot make it usual end up in turf club

While I would not not want to belittle their work and also I had a few friends previously working as Toyota SEs, I think they mainly process orders from unkers n aunties. During my last visit to the Toyota showroom, I knew more about the car than the SE and she could only talk about price and free gifts. During test-drive the next SE could not point out anything special about the cars or reply to my comments about the handling. Still I don't think Borneo should cut their commissions as I understand it is already lower than other ADs.

My experience with Toyota SE rather pleasant and transparent. Wasn't really serious about Toyota because of the higher pricing (vs Korean). But she kept encouraging (not pushy) to test drive. Encouraged to test Vios also, as she knew I was cost conscious.

Finally, tested the car (not Vios). The drive experience made me reconsider if want to go back to Korean.

As I inquired, penalty of not getting in-house financing and insurance were spelled out clearly and was never pushy must get. After that, paper work was done smoothly. Car delivery was prompt and earlier than what she committed initially.

But I suppose buying experience is a very personal one. Just happened a professional SE was assigned to me.

can ask for $100 discount, since they reduced commission [laugh]

Seriously, Borneo can set up a portal to sell Toyota online since buyer can probably find more useful info there than visiting the showroom. Give $2k discount n pickup order from Pasir Panjang port. No frills, no need expensive showroom, no need SE. It's like buying white goods anyway
