Is it alright to pay more for the Toyota brand?

 Share

Recommended Posts

That is not true, up to date Iâll say Toyota still offer value money car in Singapore. Beacause of the quality and reliability it give me a confident to extend COE for another five year. Iâve real experience where I own Toyota Altis for more 13 years and I still driving same car daily and sometime i use to have long distance Travel from Sg->KL->Sg with no issue, at least till today....

Guess u long time nv check bm price.

Toyota offer the most ex in its class n the design, specs or features doesn't justify it

War makes u think other car model can't last over 10yrs?

That's a wise decision.

When you purchase a new car, no doubt your get back your scrap value for your Altis, but that is mediocre compared to the additional taxes you pay for a new car.

ARF - 100% of OMV - $20K for a new Altis

Excise duty - 20% of OMV - $4K

GST - 7%

It is more financially savvy to renew COE.

It's a Toyota. No problem lasting another round of Coe renewal. Definitely more reliable than the k3 of its era

No one say other model cant last over 10 years, it is you yourself who keep having the impression that other people are saying so. I renew both my cars, one is not a Toyota, it is an "other" model because I am sure other car will last more than 10 years too.

And I renew Altis because it happens to be with me and I maintain it, I know it will last. if I had a Lancer or a civic today instead, i would renew it too. How long a car would last depends on proper care and maintenance under the bonnet, of course some repairs are expected but that is acceptable as long as one's mindset is correct..

I dun agree Toyota is value for money. But buyers pay more because the badge is associated with reliability . But the specs n features of the cars do suck

Now base on sgcarmart. Altis elegance is selling 103k++ when all other Jap brands r below 100k

I don't think reasonable to price the car higher due to reliabilty. And the reliabilty r mostly because there r lesser electronic features n low spec.

Cars made in Thailand with low specs n features, already gave them lots of cost saving n they still got the cheek to sell their cars so expensive! But well, their supporters love it, so what to do

BMW's AD profit margin is insane but there are still buyers.

Toyota's AD could be moving towards premium branding.

Actually Korean car profit r higher but I don't understand y a low spec low features Thailand car omv can be so high

It's because of the badge. It's like how people pay so much for an entry level c180 or A3.

The Korean brands do not enable it to command a high price.

No way for an Altis over 100k. 80k for Elegance still can consider.

Are you looking for reliability or status?

Audi for status
Toyota for reliability

You sure Toyota still for reliability now? I'll say nowadays no car are that reliability, its just how lucky on which unit you get.

There r ppl willing to pay upfront 5digit extra to get cheaper maintenance and spare parts plus the patented reliabilty

Many people say Toyota no longer offers value for money cars in Singapore. Its expensive, not worth it, old fashion specs etc

For the money you are paying to buy a Vios with drums brakes, no leather seats, manual aircon, missing DRL, you might as well buy a Korean car. It has better trim level and is much cheaper.

In my view the reason why the local agent priced it higher is because the brand is associated with reliability. You may hear people saying Korean cars are just as reliable but the Kia and Hyundai are still one notch below Toyota. Their selling point is they offer better interior design, more features such as wireless HP charging, rear aircon.

However not everyone is impressed with these type of stuff. The more stuff the car has, the higher the chances of it breaking down and electronic stuff is usually 1 yr warranty only.

What are your views?

My view is buy what you like during that period, period.

We are using our own means. Cant really be bothered / concerned about others opinions.

That said, like it or not, car technologies are here to stay. I quite like rav4 for now.

Reliabilty can never be patented. Its a result of hard work and company culture. The Jap brands have established themselves firmly in buyers mind. In this aspect, the Koreans have much to learn from the Japanese.

Can the Koreans catch up? Not really possible as the Jap is always 1 step ahead of them.

There r ppl willing to pay upfront 5digit extra to get cheaper maintenance and spare parts plus the patented reliabilty

Well....no harm hearing what others have to say before buying.
