What! Armpits?

Of course.....

....not. Somewhere else. PM him if you dont believe.

Said this before many times, most cars in US are made locally. Even Kia and Lexus are made in USA. You want USDM Kia? Challenge any parallel importer to bring in. Most likely not cos only left-hand drive.

I also said this before, buying Thaiyota is not a crime, but some people think so. Edited by Ct3833

So stressful in singapore and so many tax structure, how to define paying more?

Stripe down and everything installed locally vs some parts from original already big diff in taxes

Just curious. Would you guys prefer to buy a brand new Toyota Corolla Altis, OR a 2 year old (2017) Audi A3?

Assuming of course that the purchase price are the same.

Are you looking for reliability or status?

Audi for status

Toyota for reliability

Honestly the price for Toyota locally is starting to be insane. Korean Hyundai/Kai and even Japan Mazda/Honda offers competitive pricing for cars of the same class. Toyota's reputation for reliability is definitely unmatched but Honda & Mazda aren't that bad either (maybe 1 or 2 trips to the workshop more than a Toyota). If you're looking to buy a small/mid-size sedan like Vios or Altis, there are more affordable options out there!

Don't buy a Toyota if you're not planning to extend COE. Otherwise, you can save yourself some money or still pay the same amount of money for a more "fun" or "full-featured" car from other brands. That being said, if you're a towkay or rich then no one's stopping you from buying a Camry or Harrier when you can actually buy a decent Conti.

Many people say Toyota no longer offers value for money cars in Singapore. Its expensive, not worth it, old fashion specs etc

For the money you are paying to buy a Vios with drums brakes, no leather seats, manual aircon, missing DRL, you might as well buy a Korean car. It has better trim level and is much cheaper.

In my view the reason why the local agent priced it higher is because the brand is associated with reliability. You may hear people saying Korean cars are just as reliable but the Kia and Hyundai are still one notch below Toyota. Their selling point is they offer better interior design, more features such as wireless HP charging, rear aircon.

However not everyone is impressed with these type of stuff. The more stuff the car has, the higher the chances of it breaking down and electronic stuff is usually 1 yr warranty only.

What are your views?

That is not true, up to date I’ll say Toyota still offer value money car in Singapore. Beacause of the quality and reliability it give me a confident to extend COE for another five year. I’ve real experience where I own Toyota Altis for more 13 years and I still driving same car daily and sometime i use to have long distance Travel from Sg->KL->Sg with no issue, at least till today....

I rather have the new car.

I have seen people picking their nose in a car and then touch the steering wheel.

Asking for your opinion, I asked my son to test drive Avante and he said acceleration of Avante feels lacklustre than Altis, is it true ? I did not test drive it myself. But he is comparing my existing old altis against new Avante. Like to hear from you as your comments are more fair and neutral.

Avante kerb weight is 1310kg.

Your Altis kerb weight is 1200kg.

Thanks Vinceng, but for money reasons, I have renewed the Altis COE.

That's a wise decision.

When you purchase a new car, no doubt your get back your scrap value for your Altis, but that is mediocre compared to the additional taxes you pay for a new car.

ARF - 100% of OMV - $20K for a new Altis

Excise duty - 20% of OMV - $4K

GST - 7%

It is more financially savvy to renew COE.
