I recommended it to my friend but she bought a BMW Active Tourer instead as it was cheaper than the CX-30.

I doubt if Active Tourer can be cheaper than CX-30. PML always less off value of warranty, service, car cam and whatever freebies from the car price and list it as nett price. Jap car ADs on the other hand will give u a nett price which excludes the value of warranty, service, car cam, paint protection or whatever they throw in.

So my point is you can't compare a BMW nett price (which includes everything) vs Mazda nett price (which excludes everything) as it's not an apple to apple comparison.

Not doubting u but perhaps your friend got taken in by BMW nett price?

My friend already driving her BMW around. After signing, she even got a few k back as BMW was doing a promo. My friend is a senior banker so she is quite smart in her calculations.

One other reason why I doubted AT to be cheaper is that the OMV of AT is $30k thereabouts whilst CX30 Luxury is only $27k+ with both at neutral VES. Also, PML known for higher margins. Anyway, as long as she enjoys the car, that is paramount.

I was also surprised when she told me it was cheaper as I had also went to Performance Motor to test drive a year earlier and they were more ex. She got the AT at $119k while the CX-30 luxury is 12Xk

Cannot compare as they are in different class. CX-30 is a compact sux while AT is a hatchback. I went to test drive the AT when the price was at 119k but after think of it, I feel not worth buying it with 107hp and small cabin at that price. basically it just paying the brand for a small car at high price.

Agree, to me the CX-30 is an SUV while the AT/GT are more MPV-like but for some people, they are more similar form factor than different, so they would compare them and they have obviously already done so. My wife even compared the CX-5 to the AT. Also, many people are also willing to pay more for this badge, but now it is even less, so it is a no-brainer for them.

Here is a comparison of the BMW AT to the CX-5 by a car magazine:   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/2-series/88671/bmw-2-series-active-tourer-vs-citroen-c4-picasso-mazda-cx-5

I went to have a look at the CX-30 recently; and I must say I'm very impressed. I have been out of the Japanese car market for quite some time; previously with Audi and BMW.

The level of refinement in the CX-30 is similar to the Germans and its a much less "busy" cockpit design. In fact, I liked it so much, I'm considering buying it.

I will miss the low-down torque of a turbo engine but I don't really drive that fast anyway. The engine sound when revved hard undoubtedly intrudes into the cabin (like almost any other car); but if driven in a normal unhurried manner, the CX 30 is very well insulated. The Luxury model with factory fitted leather also feels suitably good at all the touch points as a driver. I'm 182cm and in my drivers position I can sit behind myself quite well, so no issues there. The safety pack on the Lux model is also great although most of the features will not be used often. The Bose was okay only, not as amazing as I'd expected it to be, maybe because it was only radio and not higher quality audio play (Spotify in Extreme Quality).

If you're single/couple only/young family; this should be high on the list. I guess the obvious plastic cladding is a sore point for some people but for me its no big deal; I'd choose a dark colour anyway; and you always have the option to "wrap" your car to match the body paint (albeit not a perfect match).

If there's a Whatsapp group on the CX30 or FB group that would be great to see some owner perspectives. Maybe we should start one; do let me know if you're interested in a Whatsapp group and I'll create one.

It's been 2 months, and we've already clocked 2,400kms.

It's definitely a very easy car to live with, not many things to complain about, it's comfy, safe, quiet, and even drives surprisingly well around the corners. Space-wise there's plenty of room, and easy to put the seats down when I need the room at the back for the dog. We used to drive a Honda Fit/Jazz, so this is a big step up in terms of comfort and safety tech.

As already mentioned, doesn't have that much low-end torque but can't expect that much from a NA 2L engine.

Your dog is very cute. You can consider getting a bumper protector to prevent scratches. I have seen old cars with many ugly scratches.

Was at the showroom looking at the Cx-30 and CX-5, Guess there will be more CX-30 on the road, SE told me that the base trim is sold out already.

In the end i got a CX-5 after considerations for my aging parents. Its easier for them to get into the CX-5 rather than the CX-030.
