Do they market it as trout or salmon?

Though essentially the ones in Sg mostly are from Norway and should taste similar.

In China last year, they changed the label of trout legally to salmon since most of the salmon in the country is from local trout.

The difference is that their local trout potentially has parasites so cannot eat raw sashimi. Which is kinda gross lol

Dinner at soup restaurant at Changi T1. Went to fetch wife back from business trip. Had ginger fried rice. Not bad at all. The long bean was also very good, very crunchy.

Trout were marketed generally as Salmon in various hypermarket here.

I came across Trout by "accident", when SS label it as Salmon (1st photo). It look very different from normal salmon (more rounded and meaty), and the meat is bright orange. It all tells me "come try me, come try me..."

The rest is history. I prefer the texture and taste over salmon, actually feel a little like cod fish, probably because of the fat embedded within the meat, which make it more creamy and have that deep sea taste... Oh yah, the meat is softer too (both when raw and cooked).

And I have been hunting for it since then (bought 2x ~3.0 - 3.5kg in early Jan), and only came across at Giant last week. Out of stock again. Shipment is not often I was told.

If you are keen I will pm you when I see it again.

Interesting.
Thanks Carbon82. But one fish is too much since we don't cook daily.

The latest one I bought weighed 4.62Kg and yield about 10 large fillets, where each fillet is good for 2 salmon steak (something like the one below). The head (I normal prepare fish head soup with some veggie) is good for 2 person, and the bone (with some meat on it) can be for another meal (with some green added) for my family of 4.

Both SS & Giant will cut up the fish into fillets upon request, so I will just clean them up when reached home, package them into separate bag, and keep them in the freezer. Normally take me about a month to finish 1 fish (still very fresh when defrost).

When I bought whole salmon, I will always grilled the head. Put a thin layer of miso onto as seasoning. Very nice as the meat at the head are more fatty.

There was no queue at lunchtime. We made reservations and went straight in to our table.
