Cardiac arrest can strike anyone, even those with very healthy lifestyle. Many sudden death cases are cardiac arrests and not heart attacks.

Need to do health checks that can detect arrhythmia.

I do the threadmill stress test like every 4 years st NHC , used to be about $250/- 15 odd years back , now should be $400+ ( subsidized rate) and theirs is very complete hitech but can take over 1/2 day if the scan not clear; 2 years back was already about $350 Edited by BanCoe

Very true.

One of my Director died at 68. He swam and ran treadmill daily and golfing on weekends. Every year med check up pass with flying colour. Doctor said he's v healthy.

But suddenly collapsed n died.

At least he died at 68 in one fell swoop , if he had not done his excercise regime he could have gone even earlier , but this kid lived to only 43 ( I use kid as the new middle age is now defined as about 53 and retirement is now 67..... so he made it just beyond his retirement age

"Smart" lifestyle is not so smart on our health. Simple things that people used to do, back then even if you are a couch potato, you will still walk at least a few thousand steps every day without an exclusive exercise routine. These few thousand steps has been taken away from daily life.

this CNY period i think i walked less than 2000 steps daily

too much tidbits, mahjongs and just lying around doing nothing :D

the suggested exercise routine is 10,000 steps per day with 30 mintues worth of cardio, not necessary at one go.

Maybe useful to know. Go on line and grab this. Its free.

my outlier story is my football kaki for our weekend team. A lean, super fit player we fat asses rely too much on... a vegetarian buddhist. knew him since sec school and been slim all along. Died after collapsing during a morning jog. He was 44.

Also need to see what kind of cooking... Many veg food from stalls are rather oily.

One American colleague used to be that kind of typical angmo super bui bui, took her about a year and half to slim down to our Asian size.

She was very strict on her diet. No oil and watch the calorie counts plus daily gym workouts.

Now instead of over double my size, I'm now bigger than her

Slim doesnt mean healthy and no health issue de. This is another extreme case that fit and healthy people who can just collapse and died at young age, Edited by 13177

Or get killed in a plane crash.

We cannot control how long we live.

:D

For the vast majority, knowing your levels of cholesterol and BP, and working actively to manage them with medication and exercise, will increase lifespan tremendously.

Throwing all cares to the wind despite knowing all these will also shorten lifespan.

These are confirmed stats.
