During GE2015, PAP won with 79% votes.

Is it possible to lose 30% votes in next GE?

Knowing Singaporean will not rock the boat.

Hearsay out of 69.9% got nearly half are new citizens

So now % of new citizens increasing

Not easy for Oppo to fight

Plus redraw grc boundaries also play a part

Hopefully they are strong enough to capture more grc and smc

It is tempting to think that people vote based on the candidates they're presented. In reality, rather than voting for the new contestant, people vote out governments that they feel has not done the right job for them. This is the same in most parts of the world.

For example, if CPF defaults on payments to all its members, do you think this government will be re-elected?

How can a govt who owes a debt in their own Fiat currency default in it?

The CPF is a statutory board whose funds are kept as a separate pool from the government's funds. And the CPF Life's are further separate from the CPF's funds under s27N of the CPF Act. s27N(7) makes it clear that

(7)  Notwithstanding anything in this Part or the relevant regulations, the Board shall not make any payment under this Part unless the Lifelong Income Fund is solvent.

The government could have chosen to guarantee the CPF's debts and the CPF Life payouts when enacting the changes to the Act in 2009, but specifically chose to do it this way instead. [see the 2nd reading of the Bill in Parliament in 2009.]

So, CPF members are obliged to pay their CPF monies into CPF Life which is then put into the Lifelong Income Fund, in exchange for a future income stream for the rest of the member's life - this should be a good thing.

But the CPF is only obliged to pay the member the monthly payment only if the CPF Life fund is solvent. Of course, one way to maintain solvency is to cut the payments instead of stopping them - see the Minister's reply to the 2 MPs who questioned him on the solvency requirement.

In summary, the government could have chosen to guarantee the solvency of CPF Life, and it chose not to when passing the Bill in Parliament.

In my personal opinion, it will too risky for TCB to challenge LHL in AMK GRC, even if partnering LHY and other heavy weight members.

It will make the voters have a 2nd thought which party to vote when leadership is at stake. I rather he go to his old ward in the west, where he has a much higher chance to take down even a GRC.

sld this be taken out and form a new thread?

The discussion of the coalition to be led by TCB is after all declined, so sld it be consider dead for now?

Tan Cheng Bok sld have a thread of his own, new party or not.

Any Mods disagree?

@radx @jman888 @carbon82 @spring

Thanks for the feedback. Point noted.

Hi mods, will you be able to amend the title to correct Dr Tan's name? It should be Bock.

Thanks for pointing out the error. Title amended. [:)]

I wonder what would happen if they call themselves "Progress Action Party"

I am quite sure it will never get registered. Whoever dare to approve, he/she must prepare to retire early.  [:p]
