The US does not mess around with child porn. Our f(r)iend Amos thinks he's being a clever troll but he's almost certainly bitten off more than he can chew this time. Because while his comments about having sex with babies etc. can be defended as first amendment protected speech, the actual solicitation and reception of nude and sexualised images of underage children enjoys absolutely no protection. He will very likely be found guilty of a sex crime, and be put on the sex offenders register, which is a publicly accessible database. This is no joke. It's a lifelong stigma. You have to declare this wherever you move and your neighbours will often be informed in person by local law enforcement. You will suffer hateful discrimination, assault and vandalism. You cannot move even within the US without permission, and you need to apply for permission before being granted a passport. Many countries simply refuse entry to those on the US sex offence registry. It's almost impossible to get yourself removed from the registry no matter how long it takes or what you try. On the whole, murdering an adult probably carries less stigma and actual restrictions after a prison term than a sex offence in America. And every year, new and more onerous restrictions are being put into effect for those already on the registry. The registry is actually a bit ridiculous because you can get on it for things like peeing in public, being naked in your own home (but peeped on by someone else) and having sex with a 17 year old if you're 18, even if you're just a month apart in age. Those things already get you into deep sh*t because people will still assume the worse, that you're a child kidnapper and rapist. But what Amos Yee did is definitely considered a serious offence by most Americans. No leeway for him. If I'm not mistaken, Singapore is one of the countries that bars entry to sex offenders.
