Ysc3 Twincharged December 11, 2018 Share December 11, 2018 Lady who helped Amos Yee get asylum in US now wants him deported from US He was recently deplatformed after he was banned on Facebook and Twitter, and had his Patreon page disabled. This was after content he was uploading was reported. These included videos and Facebook posts that served to legitimise and legalise paedophilia. One former Yee supporter, Melissa Chen, is the latest, and probably the most relevant advocate to speak out against Yee. Basically, she’s a human rights activist originally from Singapore, who played a huge part in securing Yee’s political asylum in America. Change in perspective But for a while now, she has been strongly against Yee’s choice of content and speech. In perhaps the strongest statement yet, Chen made a nearly 10-minute video discussing her thoughts on Yee.(video at URL) Key points If you don’t have 10 minutes to spare, here are some of the key points she made. She had handed Yee some documents that kickstarted the entire asylum process while he was still in jail in Singapore. Yee had cut all ties with her since February 2017. He had apparently done this as he felt she was being too authoritarian in her advice to him to ensure his success in gaining asylum in the US. She rarely even thought about what he was up to, or kept up to date with him. Now, she feels Yee has to be deported from America, because of his views on paedophilia. Quote “I am compelled to say Amos needs to be deported from the United States, and if he, in the process, gets sent back to jail in Singapore for going AWOL on National Service, I would find it extremely difficult to sympathise with that.”She also volunteered to escort him on his one-way ticket back. While a free-speech advocate, she insists there are some ideas that are unacceptable: Quote “Some repulsive ideas generate too much negative externalities, and especially when these externalities involve the welfare of children, I think society cannot allow them to have free reign.” I am compelled to say Amos needs to be deported from the United States, and if he, in the process, gets sent back to jail in Singapore for going AWOL on National Service, I would find it extremely difficult to sympathise with that. … he has betrayed basic human decency, he has betrayed innocent children everywhere, he has also betrayed the moral fabric of society. She did acknowledge the irony of a free-speech warrior like her advocating for shutting down Yee’s avenues for his free speech.Chen explained how she feels responsible, due to her role in getting him asylum. She reiterated her call to get Yee out of America, stating “being in America is a privilege, not a right”. Hindsight Chen then gave a succinct summary of the entire Amos Yee fiasco in Singapore, as well as highlight some of the international media’s glowing praise of Yee. After summarising the timeline, Chen talked about the blindspots and biases some activists, including herself, might have suffered from: Quote “The obvious problem on hindsight is that the desire to see him as a figure, as some sort of figure, that could take the same shape of our own cause, admittedly led to developing blind spots and biases.”One of those biases being his much lauded intelligence. Quote “For example, I think his brilliance and genius have been vastly overstated.”She further stated that Yee was a narcissist and had “zero redeeming qualities”.Chen did reiterate her opposition to the measures taken against Yee in Singapore. She also blamed those actions, and Singapore’s general culture, on not nourishing his “neurodivergent idiosyncrasies”. Despite that, Chen also acknowledged Yee was no longer a child and had to be held accountable for his actions as an adult. Chen said she was personally sorry for how this turned out, and how this might affect future activists in Singapore. She also had this to say about Yee. Quote “Amos is a stain on Singapore, and a stain on the human race.” ↡ Advertisement

StreetFight3r 6th Gear December 11, 2018 Share December 11, 2018 Activist who helped Amos Yee get political asylum in US sorry for how he turned out; wants him deported now. With a dogged persistence in campaigning for the legitimizing of pedophilia, Amos Yee has run out of social media platforms and even friends. Even his most devoted supporters from yore could no longer stomach his current pursuits, not even the person who helped the teen obtain political asylum status in the United States last year. Addressing Yee’s recent pro-pedophilia activities that got him kicked off Twitter, US-based Singaporean activist Melissa Chen has called for the 19-year-old to be deported back home. This despite her playing a major role in advocating for the teen’s right in his freedom of expression, going so far as to set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for him to settle in his new life as an asylee in Chicago (it only raised USD2,620 out of a USD10,00 goal). Chen, a permanent resident of the United States, had been instrumental in helping Yee flee Singapore and condemned her home country’s overcorrecting societal climate in a New York Times report. Chen’s singing a different tune about the problematic teen right now — something that she has publicly established since November last year. “Given my active role in his successful asylum case that gifted him a clean slate and newfound freedoms, I must actively oppose him out of sheer personal responsibility as he has thoroughly abused these hard-won freedoms,” she declared in a video posted on her Facebook page. Broken ties For those wondering why she hasn’t been able to have some semblance of control over the wayward teen, Chen clarified that Yee cut all contact with her since February last year when he was still being detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “He felt that I was too authoritarian in my approach to him as I constantly ‘advised’ him on how best to behave in a way that would enhance his chances of winning his case… and also in a way that would enhance his success in America after he got out,” Chen said. She would get occasional updates about his life from a person familiar with Yee. But that was then — now, her conscience weighs heavy on her. Strongly advocating that Yee should be deported, she even said that she would volunteer to personally escort him out of the United States. “He has betrayed basic human decency; he has betrayed innocent children everywhere; he has betrayed the moral fabric of society. If any child was sexually abused because the perpetrator came across Amos’ pro-pedo resources or even connected with other pedos through his Discord server, honestly I could never forgive myself.” She apologized for how Yee turned out and how his actions will have ripple effects on legitimate, responsible activists doing good work in Singapore. As for Yee himself, he has run out of major social media platforms to spread his toxic views, and it’ll just be a matter of time before he gets himself into serious trouble with the law.
