TOKYO (REUTERS) - Nissan's board ousted chairman Carlos Ghosn on Thursday (Nov 22) after the shock arrest of the industry heavyweight, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported without citing sources, ushering in a period of uncertainty for its 19-year alliance with Renault.

A Nissan Motor Co spokesman declined to comment.

The Franco-Japanese alliance, enlarged in 2016 to include Japan's Mitsubishi Motors, has been rattled to its core by Mr Ghosn's arrest in Japan on Monday, with the 64-year-old group chairman accused of financial misconduct.

Wonder what this means for unreleased projects and cars currently in development? New changes or delays?

A change for the better

Hope so.. Ghosn was pushing for electric vehicles and hybrid iirc. The next GT-R etc also rumored to feature a V6T hybrid powertrain V6T.. really unthinkable on a iconic halo platform.

Hopefully the new in charge is more into pure ICE development.

ICE will be dead by 2050.

Not moving away from that direction will cause the Company to die.

Nissan Leaf is pioneer in lower cost EV. It’s getting better.

I think the move will be slower than that. A large majority of cars being developed and on the road today are still powered by fuel. Even the new Supra is still a pure ICE and retains the straight six formula from the 2JZ although we do not know the exact details of its powertrain aside from the BMW developed straight six until its launch.

I believe hybrids if they are to be implemented, do so for the bread and butter cars where fuel efficiency is the key

Leave the halo/super/iconic cars alone. The Supra is a nice touch on that.

Pure ICE cars are still pretty much relavent and may yet have unresearched gains be it in terms of performance, fuel efficiency or longievity.

Same here. The car that inspired me to study and learn the automotive trade.

It was a R34. I wish the R35 kept the straight six aka RB26 as the Supra has done but the VR38 is pretty much almost on the same page. Both can make 1k hp without major reinforcing of the engine block.

Hope the R36 goes back to its roots.
