Mz3 has a $10k VES rebate so it's not actually cheaper and in fact the depreciation may be more.

Annual depreciation:

Mz3: $9,312

Altis: $9,166

The diff over 10 years is $1,460

Chevy cars worse than jap n Korean cars.  There is no need for him to bash other brands.

Qns... Do u actually own one? If not, on what grounds are u saying its terrible? Just becos thats what 'everybody' said?

Lousy in terms of what? Reliability? Comfort? Handling? Equipment list? The only downside that I can agree is the zero resale value (applies to most cars these days), and zero availability of parts in SG.

However in today's highly connected world, do you really need to rely on local dealers and stockists for parts? If they do not have any or try to sell u parts at 500-600% profit, you turn to the net for help, not to get stuck there and then complain the car is lousy.

Along the same note, 'everybody' said Honda Civic was a great car, superbly reliable and fuel sipping...  My qns again... Does 'everybody' even own one b4 to even make such a comment?

The diff in road tax can cover this

Not including the FC n the premium interior quality plus mij Vs mit

Tks, justifies what I was trying to point out on not looking at selling price alone. Anyway, few k is negligible  Which car suits your driving style, design etc , just buy. Won't go much wrong with either.

I've tested the Mz3, I feel its torque is not sufficient so car sluggish but maybe I'm not a good tester coming from a diesel owner. Design n interior plus features is top notch for this price range.

Altis I've not tried so can't comment. Interior ok but not in Mz3 class, my 2 cents.....

Road tax diff between 1600cc vs 1500cc is about $60 per annum only.

I'm no expert compared to Chris Tan of ST but I doubt that Altis FC can be that bad. Need some owners to come in and either debunk or confirm his findings.....

Mz3 pick up really quite slow and it's a fact.

Handling wise , quite good

I owned 2 Mz3 before. Yes the pick up is not there and yes handling is always good. In fact I would say Mazda cars are the closest Jap cars to Conti.

Having said that, Toyota comes across as more refined vs Mazda. Its quiet and supposedly fuel efficient but now Chris Tan says otherwise.

The new mz3 improved alot on the sound proof. So should be much better compare to previous batch

As for FC, it's better to ask the phv drivers who tried several cars to tell u.

Actually on paper it's already quite bad.

Qn: Have you had any experience with OMFG Prius? Or any car on the SMLJ TNGA platform? Or really understood why the POS Avanza is such a hit in other countries such as Indonesia?

Get your facts right, stop spouting misleading nonsense, tone down on your exaggerations, and learn to eat humble pie when you are corrected.

For your own sanity, and ours. Please.

Does 2 gen of G9 applies? And I can say that the both of them were hardly worth or lived up to the hype it was being poured upon back then.

At least both were faster and got considerably better fuel economy than the current G12 (as reported by that auto journalist) despite their 20 yr old 1ZZ-FE engine.

What I am saying is that 20 yrs later, we got a G12 Corolla that performs worse than 20 yrs ago. And it didnt offer much more cabin space nor refinement. Granted the G12 have the Toyota Sense suite and 7 airbags, but these safety features are considered the norm these days rather than being ground breaking.... not to mention the competition already had them long b4 Toyota does.

Anyway to each his own. Lousy or not, it is the owner who will live with it. Its their money anyway

LOLLLLLLL Of course 1.8 litre 1ZZ-FE will be better than the current 1.6 litre leh

compare fairly la hahahahhaa

You should be comparing to 3ZZ-FE, which should have come with the 1.6 corollas (unless you had one of the few 1.8 Altis)

One of his typical OMFG nonsense post. Want to speak with SMLJ authority but spout half-truths and POS rubbish.

The mods will focus on you because they don't need your policing at here. They have so far done a good job.

I had both 3ZZ-FE and 1ZZ-FE... sigh... u guys really assumed too much....

And yes I got the 1st batch of G9 Altis 1.8 in SG. Bought it without test drive...

Upgraded to 1.8 only becos the then 1.6E fit n finish was noticeably worse than my Hipporolla, and then no point changing to another same car again.

Anyway I got the 5MT Hipporolla, something youngsters these days cannot even handle due to their Class 3A licence. But to those who could and value real driving experience, you will find today's G12 CVT is just a total waste of time.

I beg to differ.  Nowadays CVT are getting very good, and I am driving one on a Subaru (partially owned by Toyota).  You have been saying CVTs are terrible, but fails to learn that CVTs are already a mature and tested transmission.  It is not good keep harping on how bad CVTs are, just to prove your point about how all cars should not use CVT and it is bound for failure, which turns out to be wrong all the while.

If you watch youtube reviews on the latest Toyota Altis, most if not all reviews actually says it surmounts all other B&B cars, except the engine which does not live up to the excellence of the car.  Never was it mentioned that the CVT is lousy.

And is the part on " I got the 5MT.., something youngsters cannot even handle.." even necessary ?  You should try to have some humility in your postings.  This is what is irking, just saying.  No offence.
